Altroz will be the most crucial launch for Tata Motors in 2020 as the model shall define Tata’s performance for the year and shall be vital to place Tata Motors in the 3rd spot of Top OEMs. The Premium Hatchback segment is completely dominated by Maruti & Hyundai. Premium Hatch segment is second biggest segment in India in terms of volumes and the sheer size can be assessed by seeing how well Baleno has been accepted in the subcontinent. Baleno was also the best selling car in India in Dec 2019!
Segmentwise Sales Figures for 2019 –
12.5% of the overall passenger cars sales is from Premium Hatch segment and has not seen a capable offering from any OEMs. The Premium Hatch segment is also facing stiff competition from Compact SUV space as the customers can upgrade to SUV at a small price difference. However; Tata is approaching the segment with enthusiasm and made Altroz extremely feature rich and designed it funky! The Altroz has also impressed by getting a 5-star safety rating in the crash test conducted by the Global NCAP. Tata has priced the model aggressively too.
