MG Crossover Sedan Revealed, Renault Triber AMT Launch Soon, Swift Facelift

Renault Triber AMT To Launch On May 18

According to a leaked document, Renault could launch the Triber with an AMT automatic on May 18. This date is not official yet and may change as the COVID situation develops. Even though the dealerships are starting to open up in a phased manner, the consumer response is damp. A fresh product update should help increase the footfall.

Baojun RC-5 was recently unveiled in China. The RC-5 is smaller than but similar to the RC-6, which MG had showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. These are crossover sedans, as in, sedans with a high ground clearance.  Powertrain options of the MG RC-5 include a 1.5-litre normal and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. They deliver 100PS and 150PS of power output, respectively. It’s 4650mm long, 1806mm wide and 1458mm tall with a 2700mm wide wheelbase.

MG RC-6 Drew Crowds At The 2020 Auto Expo

The RC-5, which was on display at the MG’s stall, did garner the attention of a decent chunk of visitors. However, the consensus on online forums is that it’d make sense at Skoda Octavia and Toyota Corolla’s price point. The RC-6 is unlikely to meet that price point as it’s a much larger car; larger than even the Toyota Camry and Skoda Superb. The RC-5, on the other hand, is a mid-size sedan and may attain the price, which could make some Indian buyers give it a serious thought. So, it’s possible that the MG RC-5 may go on sale in India if the SUV fad fades away.

Japan-Spec Suzuki Swift Facelift Brochure Leaked

A leaked brochure of the Japan-spec Suzuki Swift Facelift tells us how the 2021 Maruti Suzuki Swift’s mid-life refresh could look. Updates are mild at best and the most notable change addition is a chrome strip on the grille and the redesigned bumper. For the Indian buyers, it’s almost certain that the Swift facelift will get the mild-hybrid tech from the Dzire facelift. With the AMT automatic transmission, it promises an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of over 24kmpl. This partly fills the gap in the Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio now that they don’t offer a diesel engine.

At the 2020 Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki had also displayed a full-hybrid variant of the Swift. It can go for a claimed 32km on a litre of petrol. This powertrain can almost completely plug the diesel engine gap with its phenomenal fuel efficiency. A premium of about Rs. 1.0 lakh sounds justified for the fuel cost savings it can deliver.
