Fuel wise Sales Snapshot for FY2021 -

  • The share of Petrol cars has increased from 67 percent in 2019-20 to 76 percent in 2020-21 in spite of Petrol cost surging to unprecedented levels.

  • Diesel car sales have dropped dramatically from 29 percent in 2019-20 to just 17 percent in 2020-21 ( do note that diesel car share in 2012-13 was 54 percent).

  • The decline in Diesel model sales is led by a number of carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Nissan, VW & Skoda deciding to stop selling diesel models completely due to the BS-6 transition.

  • The share of CNG cars has also increased from 4 percent in 2019-20 to 6 percent in 2020-21 ruled by market leaders Maruti Suzuki & Hyundai as no other OEMs sell CNG models.
