Maruti Suzuki Sales Analysis-Q1. CNG Contribution Reaches 11.52%. Swift, Wagon-r & Baleno are top 3

Maruti Suzuki ranked 1 in the domestic market and the exports market for Quarter 1 of the Financial year 2021-2022. Maruti Suzuki also dominated the top 10 cars of Quarter 1. This Quarter has been a period of three months where Maruti has re-established its dominance in the Indian Car market. However, concerns with regard to market share drop remain a challenge for Maruti.

  • The total volume sale stood at 2,93,062 units this year Quarter One. This was a strong growth over last year's 64,976 units. One car Gypsy was discontinued when compared to LY v/s TY.

  • The total CNG models stood at 33,752 units. This was 27,453 units higher than Last Year.

  • Petrol volumes stood at 2,59,310 units. This was about 2,00,633 units higher than Last year.

  • Wagon-r was the highest-selling CNG car of Maruti with 14,157 units. Followed by Ertiga at rank 2 and Dzire at rank 3.

  • Swift was the highest-selling Petrol Model for Maruti, followed by Baleno and then Alto.

  • Swift contributed about 15% of the Total Sales of Maruti Suzuki. Followed by Wagon R at 14%. Baleno contributed 12% of the Total Sales of Maruti Suzuki. The next in line was Alto with an 11% contribution. Vitara Brezza Contributed 9% of the total sales.

With CNG technology catching up for Maruti as an alternative fuel type it remains interesting to see how competition catches up. Tata Motors, Hyundai, and the rest have started working on the promotion of CNG fuel type, however, Maruti seems to get its volumes running with regards to CNG. Also, currently, CNG is available only in the Arena channel of Maruti Suzuki and not the Nexa Channel. Hence, volumes would further build-up when CNG fuel type would be introduced in Nexa.
