  1. Ciaz is the king of C segment. Sales are equal to City+Verna+Yaris. Tiago is inching closer to 10k magic figure.

  2. What happened to scross sales??
Was it just a one month push to compensate ciaz sales. Again focus is back on ciaz and scross being ignored??

  3. Overambitious pricing has taken toll on Toyota Yaris numbers, monthly runrate has dropped to 1760, so year closing will be far below forecasted runrate of 2500, that company has planned with petrol only engine. Segment though is not expanding, and new gen Verna has eaten into Ciaz and City’s pie.
So, Toyota’s India volume-success story was scripted by a ladder chassis body (read Qualis) and perhaps it will continue to do so. Good they have forged a good relation with Indian volume market specialist – “Maruti” (powered by Suzuki!).

Amaze is doing quite well, this time Honda has focused much on to strike right balance on product and price, result is apparent. Consumer perceived value always doesn’t lie in low pricing, to corroborate look at low numbers of Tigor. Indian consumer are highly value conscious (Creta, Innova, Fortuner), automaker’s presumptive cost conscious approach is self-created trap (Ford Aspire), Maruti and Hyundai learned it well, lately Tata unlearned legacy stuff and started from scratch, thus charting success story of turnaround.

Initial review for Mahindra Marazzo is good, but so was for Renault Lodgy (Ambulance inspired styling!), dubbed by media as Toyota Innova killer. Mahindra is cleverly aiming for the positioning vacated by old Innova, it is quite interesting to see how a vehicle engineered in America land perform in Indian market.

  4. what happened to scross sales?
So july month sales push was just to push for the lack of ciaz sales(which has since come with an upgrade) and scross being ignored again???

  5. Ford Freestyle has sold good numbers. EcoSport, Nexon, WR-V all are consistent. TIGOR sales there is a dip. Dzire and Amaze all-time high. Tiago is consistently posting nice numbers. Ertiga sales drop – Marazzo capturing it?

  6. Mahindra Marazzo was launched on 03rd September 2018.

Above in the article, how come it is reported that it has sold 1,762 units in August 2018?

    1. Hi Ameya. The statistics is dispacthes of cars from OEM to Dealers. So, for a car (Marazzo) to be launched on 3rd Sep – the dealers would have received it earlier itself.

      1. Thanks Admin for the quick reply.

Any idea where can one get the accurate sales figures for India on a city level and if lucky on a car model level?

I know that SIAM reports sales, but those are only from OEMs to Delaers and not actual retail sales.

          1. It is…check out Vahan4 Dashbaord powered by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) Government of India.

The problem is they don’t give a direct information of Car Parc Data for India…you would have to take the effort to manually go year by year state by state rto by rto to arrive at a proper figure.

Currently they are reporting registrations done for 30 states…6 states are been planned. But no model level sales. I hope the govt does something to make this information available for analysis.
