1 out of 5 cars sold in India for January 2021 was a Compact SUV!

The Sub-4m Compact SUV segment almost doubled in Jan 2021 v/s Jan 2020 and now contributes near to 18% of overall Passenger Cars sales in India!

1. The segment saw three major launches in the segment – Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite & Toyota Urban Cruiser. All these 3 models have proved to be volume churners for the respective OEMs and has helped the segment grow a stupendous 90% YoY.

2. Venue emerged as the best selling Compact SUV for January 2021 and 11.7k units were shipped to the dealers. The model registered a YoY growth of 75% and outsold the likes of Brezza and Sonet.

3. Brezza + Urban Cruiser combined sold over 13.6k units! The rebadging exercise seems to have worked for the partners Suzuki & Toyota.

4. Sonet fared decent and 8,829 units were shipped in January 2021. It also ranked third in the list of Best Selling Compact SUVs for Jan’21.

5. Even with intensifying competition; Tata Nexon registered its lifetime highest monthly volume in Jan’21! It recorded one of the highest YoY growth in the segment and was well ahead of next in line Mahindra XUV300.

6. Nissan’s Magnite outsold Toyota’s Urban Cruiser in Jan’21 and is going strong.

7. With Renault Kiger launch; it shall be one of the most crowded yet sought after segment in the Indian market.
