Compact Sedans have recorded a YoY growth after a long time and it grew 7% in Sep’20 v/s Sep’19.
Maruti Dzire was the undisputed leader in the segment and sold near to 14k units. However; it was the only model in the segment to record a dip in sales YoY. The exclusion of diesel engine and lost sales in the Taxi segment has affected the overall volumes for the model.
Honda Amaze was the second best selling model in the segment. Amaze currently has all the ingredients to be the segment leader and we hope it fares better. Amaze was also Honda’s best selling car for Sep’20 and it registered its highest sales of the past 7 months in Sep’20.
Hyundai is not showing any signs of giving away volumes in the segment. The OEM has accommodated 2 pronged strategy for the model – Xcent Prime to be sold in commercial segment and Aura to be pitched to personal customers. The model sales grew 234% YoY which was the highest in the segment!
Tata Motors literally discovered the Compact Sedan segment with Indigo CS. But their presence in the segment now remains minimal. While Tiago is selling in good numbers; it is time Tigor volumes increase accordingly as well.
