Skoda Slavia Facelift Production Begins in Pune; New 8-Speed Automatic Among Key Updates
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has commenced production of the updated Slavia at its Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune. The development follows the sedan’s unveiling on 18 August and brings the refreshed model a step closer to customers ahead of the festive sales period.
The update combines revised styling with a new automatic transmission option and additional comfort and parking features. Skoda is looking to build on a model that has recorded nearly 80,000 sales in India, according to company figures quoted in the production announcement.
New automatic gearbox for the 1.0 TSI
One of the most significant mechanical changes is an eight-speed torque-converter automatic paired with the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. A six-speed manual remains part of the line-up, while the 1.5-litre TSI continues with a seven-speed DSG.
The wider transmission choice is a central part of this update. However, any improvement in real-world efficiency or driving refinement will need to be assessed through road testing.
Revised lighting and additional cabin equipment
Exterior changes include new LED headlamps, redesigned LED taillamps with sequential rear indicators and fresh alloy-wheel designs. Inside, Skoda has introduced updated interior themes and additional technology.
Equipment announced for the facelift includes a rear-seat massage function, a 360-degree Area View camera and front parking sensors. Availability will depend on the variant.
The cabin also receives a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported, alongside a Google Cloud-powered voice assistant.
Six airbags are standard across the range. Skoda describes the updated model as carrying forward the Slavia’s five-star Global NCAP safety credentials; this should not be interpreted as a newly announced crash test of the facelift.
Production begins; final pricing remains a key detail
Pre-bookings opened at the August unveiling. The production report reviewed for this article does not provide a final variant-wise price list or an exact customer-delivery date.
Buyers should therefore distinguish between prices quoted for the outgoing Slavia and the facelift’s eventual launch prices. Production commencement alone does not establish when every variant will become available at dealerships.
