Next-Generation Hyundai Tucson Revealed With Radical New Design, Tech-Heavy Cabin

Hyundai has taken the wraps off the next-generation Tucson, giving its globally popular midsize SUV a significant design overhaul for the 2027 model year. The new Tucson moves away from the heavily sculpted styling of the outgoing model and adopts a distinctly boxier, more rugged and futuristic appearance.

The reveal follows Hyundai CEO José Muñoz's confirmation earlier in 2026 that an all-new Tucson would debut during the year, beginning with the company's home market of South Korea.

New Tucson Gets a Much Boxier Design

The biggest change is immediately visible from the exterior.

Hyundai has replaced the current Tucson's intricate grille and sharply creased bodywork with a cleaner and more upright SUV silhouette. The new model features prominent squared-off wheel arches, muscular fenders and stronger horizontal lines, giving it considerably more road presence.

At the front, a full-width lighting element spans the fascia, while the main lighting units adopt a sharply angular appearance. A similar lighting treatment is used at the rear, where another horizontal light bar stretches across the tailgate.

Overall, the design appears to follow Hyundai's broader shift towards rugged, geometric SUV styling seen on its newer-generation products.

Compared with the outgoing Tucson, the upcoming model looks less crossover-like and substantially more traditional SUV in character.

Completely Redesigned Interior

The cabin has undergone an equally significant transformation.

A large central touchscreen dominates the dashboard, replacing the more integrated screen arrangement seen on the current-generation Tucson. Hyundai has also adopted a two-spoke steering wheel and a rounded centre console design.

Bright orange dashboard accents visible on the revealed vehicle add contrast to an otherwise minimalist interior.

The layout suggests Hyundai is focusing on creating a more technology-centric cockpit while simultaneously improving the sense of width and space inside the SUV.

Earlier prototypes of the next-generation Tucson had also suggested Hyundai was preparing a significantly larger infotainment interface as part of its upcoming connected-car ecosystem. However, Hyundai has not yet officially detailed the screen specifications or complete infotainment feature list.

Engine Specifications Still Under Wraps

Hyundai has not yet announced the engine and transmission specifications for the new Tucson.

Internationally, however, the SUV is expected to continue offering a combination of conventional internal-combustion and electrified powertrains, including hybrid derivatives.

More detailed information regarding engine outputs, battery specifications, fuel economy and drivetrain options should emerge closer to the SUV's market launch.

This is particularly important because hybrid SUVs have become increasingly significant in the global midsize SUV market.

Will the New Hyundai Tucson Come to India?

The India story remains particularly interesting.

The previous-generation Tucson occupied Hyundai's premium SUV space in India, positioned above the Creta and Alcazar. However, the Tucson has traditionally been a relatively low-volume model compared with Hyundai's mass-market SUVs.

Hyundai has not officially confirmed an Indian launch for the newly revealed generation, so any India timeline should presently be treated as speculative.

That said, the new model could become considerably more relevant for India if Hyundai introduces an electrified powertrain alongside a strong equipment package.

The premium SUV market has evolved significantly in recent years, with customers increasingly considering models offering hybrid technology, sophisticated ADAS, larger infotainment systems and more premium interiors.

The interior overhaul appears equally important. Large displays and connected technology are rapidly becoming differentiators in this segment, and Hyundai seems determined to position the Tucson as one of its technology showcases.

The bigger question for India will be powertrain strategy.

If Hyundai eventually brings the next-generation Tucson to our market with a strong-hybrid powertrain, rather than relying solely on conventional petrol or diesel engines, it could substantially strengthen the SUV's positioning against increasingly electrified premium rivals.
