Andhra Pradesh Secures ₹1,614 Crore Investment from Hyundai-Kia Suppliers, Strengthens Automotive Manufacturing Hub

Three South Korean automotive component manufacturers — Hwashin, Seoyon and Iwamet — have selected Andhra Pradesh for their expansion projects, potentially generating 1,418 jobs and strengthening the supplier ecosystem around Kia India's manufacturing facility.

Andhra Pradesh has secured a major investment commitment in India's automotive component manufacturing sector, with three South Korean suppliers associated with Hyundai and Kia agreeing to invest a combined ₹1,614 crore in the state.

The three companies — Hwashin, Seoyon and Iwamet — have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish new manufacturing facilities. The proposed investments are expected to create 1,418 employment opportunities.

The development is particularly significant because neighbouring Tamil Nadu, already one of India's largest automotive manufacturing hubs, had also been pursuing investments from these companies.

The investment commitments follow Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh's visit to South Korea in July 2026, where he engaged with automotive component manufacturers associated with Hyundai and Kia. Subsequent follow-up by the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board helped convert those discussions into investment proposals.

Investment Breakdown: Hwashin Leads with ₹850 Crore

Hwashin accounts for more than half of the combined investment, while Seoyon is expected to generate the largest number of employment opportunities.

Hwashin – ₹850 Crore Investment

Hwashin Automotive India is the largest investor among the three companies, committing ₹850 crore for manufacturing expansion. The South Korean automotive supplier specializes in structural and chassis-related components, including subframes, cross-members, suspension parts, and stamped sheet-metal assemblies.

Hwashin has an established presence in India, supplying components to Hyundai Motor India and Kia India, with existing operations in Tamil Nadu highlighting its strong ties with Korean manufacturers. The proposed investment in Andhra Pradesh could enhance its manufacturing capabilities and proximity to Kia's assembly operations.

Seoyon – ₹514 Crore Investment

Seoyon has committed approximately ₹514 crore, with its proposed facility expected to generate 918 jobs — nearly 65% of the total employment potential across the three projects.

The company is associated with automotive interior and exterior components. Its expansion could help develop a stronger local supply chain for vehicle cabin and related systems.

Iwamet – ₹250 Crore Investment

Iwamet has proposed a ₹250 crore investment, potentially creating 400 jobs. The manufacturing operation in Kurnool will enhance Andhra Pradesh's automotive component ecosystem and may attract further investment. The regional investment report highlights Hwashin's project in Sri Sathya Sai district and Iwamet's facility in Kurnool, instead of concentrating all factories in Anantapur district.

Why Andhra Pradesh Is Becoming an Important Automotive Manufacturing Destination

Andhra Pradesh's biggest advantage in attracting Korean automotive suppliers is the existing Kia manufacturing ecosystem around Penukonda.

Kia's entry into the region established an automotive manufacturing base that created opportunities for component suppliers, logistics companies and other supporting industries.

The latest investment commitments could accelerate the development of this ecosystem in several ways.

1. Stronger supplier localisation: A larger concentration of component manufacturers near Kia's production facility could reduce dependence on supplies transported over longer distances.

2. Improved supply-chain efficiency: Local component sourcing can help manufacturers reduce transportation costs, shorten replenishment cycles and improve production coordination.

3. Greater manufacturing competitiveness: The presence of established Korean suppliers could make the region more attractive for future automotive investments.

4. Employment and industrial development: The projects could create direct manufacturing jobs while supporting indirect opportunities in transportation, tooling, maintenance, warehousing and industrial services.

These are potential benefits rather than confirmed operational outcomes, as the proposed facilities have yet to be commissioned.

Andhra Pradesh vs Tamil Nadu: Competition for Korean Automotive Investments Intensifies

Tamil Nadu has traditionally enjoyed a strong position in India's automotive manufacturing industry, supported by Hyundai's manufacturing operations near Chennai and a well-established network of Korean component suppliers.

Hwashin and Seoyon already have manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu, while Iwamet had registered an entity in the state. Tamil Nadu officials reportedly held discussions with all three companies regarding potential investments.

However, Andhra Pradesh ultimately secured the latest investment commitments.

The decision has also triggered political criticism in Tamil Nadu, with opposition leaders questioning why the state could not convert earlier discussions into confirmed investment agreements.

Importantly, these developments do not indicate that Hyundai or Kia is relocating its existing manufacturing operations from Tamil Nadu. They concern expansion investments by component suppliers, and there is no confirmation that existing Tamil Nadu factories will close.

The Larger Opportunity: Building an Automotive Cluster Around Kia

The latest commitments are part of a broader industrial development push in the Rayalaseema region. Reports from the October 2026 CII regional investment summit indicate that Kia India and its associated units have invested over ₹22,000 crore, generating 24,237 direct jobs. The proposed ₹1,614 crore investment by three Korean suppliers could further enhance this manufacturing base.

For the automotive industry, this development underscores the benefits of geographically concentrated supplier networks, offering more reliable deliveries, reduced inventory, and faster coordination. For Andhra Pradesh, creating such an ecosystem may hold more long-term value than isolated manufacturing projects.

What Does This Mean for Hyundai and Kia in India?

Though all three companies are linked to the Hyundai-Kia supply chain, the investments don't necessarily indicate increased vehicle production capacity. This development could impact both automakers significantly.

For Kia India, a stronger local supplier ecosystem could enhance production efficiency, component availability, and future product programs.

For Hyundai Motor India, the expansion of Korean suppliers may offer more sourcing flexibility, depending on future products and customer needs.

Suppliers with expanded Indian manufacturing could better support new vehicle platforms and localisation, including electrified vehicles. No specific vehicle models, supply contracts, or production volumes have been confirmed by the companies.

Auto Punditz Analysis

The investment commitments highlight the competition among Indian states to attract automotive manufacturing. Andhra Pradesh has shown the benefits of targeted international investment, leveraging its major vehicle manufacturer and industrial ecosystem.

Tamil Nadu retains strengths like a mature supplier network, skilled workforce, infrastructure, and global automaker relationships. The key development is the rise of competitive regional automotive clusters in India, not just one state gaining at another's expense.

The ₹1,614 crore represents proposed investments via MoUs, with actual impact dependent on various factors like land allocation and investment deployment.

If successful, these projects could bolster Andhra Pradesh as a hub for Korean automotive component manufacturing, strengthening Kia's supply chain in India.
