Autonomous driving chip to be developed by Samsung for Google’s Waymo?



South Korean media reports that Waymo, Alphabet Inc’s autonomous driving unit has recently awarded a project to Samsung Electronics.


The project entails developing chips for the next generation of self-driving cars for Waymo.


The chips will compute data collected through sensors installed in autonomous vehicles or centrally control the functions. They will then exchange information with Google data centers in real-time.


Samsung’s logic chip development division will carry out the project.


Alphabet did not issue an immediate comment while Samsung electronics declined to comment; quoting client company matters. South Korean media reports that Waymo, Alphabet Inc’s autonomous driving unit has recently awarded a project to Samsung Electronics.
