Dzire Extends Dominance with 63% Market Share; Sedan Segment Grows 14% YoY!
The Indian sedan segment continued its steady growth trajectory in July 2026 despite SUVs remaining the preferred body style for most buyers. Total sedan dispatches stood at 37,728 units, up from 33,106 units in July 2025, registering a healthy 14.0% year-on-year growth. The growth was once again spearheaded by the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which strengthened its grip on the segment with an overwhelming 63.1% market share.
The top three sedans — Dzire, Aura and Amaze — together accounted for over 87% of the entire sedan market, underlining the concentration of demand in the compact sedan space.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire remained India's best-selling sedan by a huge margin, recording 23,791 units in July 2026. Sales improved 13.9% YoY, while the model captured an impressive 63.1% share of the entire sedan segment.
The Dzire alone sold more than all other sedans combined, reaffirming its popularity among both private buyers and fleet operators.
Hyundai Aura retained second place with 5,817 units, registering a healthy 25.5% YoY growth. With a 15.4% segment share, the Aura remains Hyundai's strongest performer in the sedan category.
Honda Amaze, which posted an impressive 71.0% YoY growth, climbing to 3,436 units from 2,009 units last year. The Amaze accounted for 9.1% of total sedan sales, making it the fastest-growing model among the high-volume sedans and further strengthening Honda's position in the segment.
The mid-size sedan category remained under pressure as consumer preference continued shifting towards similarly priced SUVs.
Volkswagen Virtus recorded 1,420 units, down 21.0% YoY.
Skoda Slavia sold 993 units, declining 15.0%.
Hyundai Verna posted 737 units, slipping 10.8%.
Honda City retailed 571 units, down 11.6%.
Tata Tigor registered 758 units, compared to 968 units a year ago, translating into a 21.7% decline. The model held a 2.0% share of the sedan market as Tata's focus continues to remain heavily skewed towards SUVs and electric vehicles.
At the premium end, the Toyota Camry continued to grow steadily. Sales increased to 205 units, up 27.3% YoY from 161 units in July 2025.
