Chinese NEV Sales September 2026: BYD Leads, Geely Galaxy Second as Leapmotor Tops 1 Lakh
BYD reported 4,56,713 passenger vehicle sales in September 2026, followed by Geely Galaxy and Leapmotor in the selected Chinese new energy vehicle sales compilation.
September’s reported volumes highlight the scale of China’s electrified vehicle manufacturers. Geely Galaxy recorded 1,30,479 units, while Leapmotor crossed the one-lakh mark with 1,05,656 deliveries, according to CarNewsChina’s updated compilation.
The figures require careful interpretation: the compilation includes brands, manufacturer groups and a multi-brand alliance, with overseas volumes included where reported. It should therefore be read as a comparison of selected manufacturers’ announcements, rather than a complete China domestic retail ranking.

BYD’s passenger vehicle sales exceed 4.56 lakh
BYD’s wider NEV total stood at 4,63,561 units, including commercial vehicles. Passenger vehicles accounted for 4,56,713 units, explaining the difference between the company’s overall headline volume and the figure used in the table. Battery electric passenger vehicle sales reached 2,73,143 units, up approximately 33% year-on-year. Based on the reported passenger vehicle total, fully electric models contributed around 59.8% of BYD’s monthly passenger sales.
Overseas business also supported growth. It is reported that BYD’s global vehicle sales increased approximately 17% year-on-year, with overseas passenger vehicle and pickup shipments reaching 1,79,877 units. This reinforces the need to distinguish its global performance from demand within China.
Leapmotor maintains six-digit monthly deliveries
Leapmotor’s September deliveries rose approximately 59% year-on-year, marking its third consecutive month above 1,00,000 units. That sustained performance makes its scale particularly significant among the manufacturers featured in the compilation.
Nio’s total includes three brands
Nio Inc.’s 37,408 deliveries comprised 21,318 NIO vehicles, 8,763 ONVO vehicles and 7,327 FIREFLY vehicles. Group deliveries increased 7.7% year-on-year. For January–September, Nio Inc. reported 3,00,301 deliveries, up 49.2%. Its group-level figure should therefore be distinguished from sales of the NIO brand alone when comparing competitors.
