Global Automotive Crankshaft Market: Top Companies Held Nearly 53% Share In 2024

The global automotive crankshaft market remained a fragmented but strategically important component industry in 2024, with the top listed players together accounting for around 52.7% of estimated market revenue.

Crankshafts are among the most critical components in internal combustion engines. Their role is to convert the up-and-down motion of pistons into rotational force, which ultimately drives the vehicle. Even as electric vehicles continue to gain share, crankshaft demand remains closely linked to global production of petrol, diesel, hybrid, commercial vehicle and industrial engines.

As per the shared market-share estimate, thyssenkrupp led the global automotive crankshaft market in 2024 with a 7.37% revenue share. The company’s leadership is understandable, as thyssenkrupp has a strong forged-components business and supplies forged crankshafts for multiple engine types and vehicle categories.

Kobelco ranked second with a 6.05% share, followed by Nippon Steel at 5.73%. Nippon Steel’s presence is also supported by its global crankshaft operations, including manufacturing for automotive and industrial applications.

Aichi Steel stood fourth with 4.54%, while Hyundai WIA completed the top five with 3.98%. The rest of the top ten included Tianrun, CIE Automotive, Bharat Forge, Maschinenfabrik Alfing Kessler and Linamar.

For India, the most relevant name in the global ranking is Bharat Forge, which was shown with a 3.36% share. This highlights India’s growing importance in the global forged-components and powertrain-parts supply chain. Bharat Forge’s presence in this list also reflects the country’s capability in precision forging and export-oriented component manufacturing.

Market Structure: Fragmented Beyond The Top 10

The most important takeaway is that the crankshaft market is not dominated by one or two companies. Even the largest player has less than 8% share, while nearly half of the market is still held by smaller and regional suppliers.

This fragmentation is because crankshaft manufacturing is often tied to regional engine plants, OEM supplier relationships, material expertise, forging capacity and machining precision. Passenger vehicle, commercial vehicle, off-highway, marine and industrial engines can also have different supplier ecosystems.

Why This Market Still Matters Despite EV Growth

Pure EVs do not use engine crankshafts, but the global transition away from internal combustion engines is uneven. Hybrid vehicles, range-extenders, commercial vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, tractors, generators and industrial machinery continue to support crankshaft demand.

Market-research estimates suggest the global automotive crankshaft market was worth roughly USD 5–7 billion in 2024, depending on methodology. Grand View Research estimated it at USD 4.98 billion, Polaris at USD 5.09 billion, and Maximize Market Research at USD 7.06 billion.

Key Takeaway

The key point is clear: the crankshaft market remains globally relevant, highly fragmented and still closely linked to ICE, hybrid and commercial vehicle production. India’s presence through Bharat Forge and Sansera also shows how Indian component makers are increasingly visible in global powertrain supply chains.
