Hyundai Creta Crosses 15 Lakh Domestic Sales in India; Exports Near 3 Lakh Units
Hyundai Creta has achieved a significant milestone in the Indian passenger vehicle market, surpassing 15 lakh cumulative domestic wholesale sales since its introduction in July 2015. By the end of September 2026, the popular midsize SUV had recorded 15,12,036 units in domestic dispatches, highlighting its sustained popularity over more than 11 years.
The achievement comes as Hyundai Motor India continues to strengthen its SUV portfolio amid growing competition from Tata Motors, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Kia and other manufacturers.
The Creta has also established a presence in export markets, with cumulative overseas shipments reaching 2,95,994 units through August 2026, bringing it close to another milestone of 3 lakh exports.
The Creta represents approximately 15% of Hyundai's cumulative domestic passenger vehicle wholesales since the manufacturer's entry into India. It also accounts for around 55% of Hyundai's domestic utility vehicle dispatches since the Creta was launched, underlining its importance to the company's Indian operations.

Creta Records Its Highest Annual Sales in FY2026
FY2026 emerged as the strongest financial year for the Hyundai Creta, with domestic wholesale volumes reaching 2,01,921 units, an increase of approximately 4% over FY2025.
The SUV had already demonstrated strong momentum in the preceding two financial years, growing from 1,62,773 units in FY2024 to 1,94,871 units in FY2025.
However, the first half of FY2027 presents a more challenging picture. Combined Creta and Creta Electric sales stood at 89,727 units between April and September 2026, compared with 99,345 units during the same period a year earlier, reflecting a decline of approximately 10%.
The slowdown illustrates how intensifying competition is affecting even established models in India's highly contested SUV market.

Updated Creta and Electric Version Drive Sales
Hyundai introduced the updated Creta in January 2024, followed by the Creta Electric in January 2025.
Together, these versions have contributed an estimated 5.3 lakh domestic units through September 2026, reflecting the importance of product updates and powertrain diversification to the nameplate's performance.
The availability of petrol, turbo-petrol, diesel and electric powertrains allows Hyundai to cater to different buyer requirements, including urban commuting, highway usage and customers considering a transition to electric mobility.
The internal-combustion Creta continues to offer 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, along with manual and automatic transmission options.
Hyundai Creta Exports Approach 3 Lakh Units
Beyond the domestic market, the Creta has contributed to Hyundai India's export operations.
Cumulative Creta exports reached 2,95,994 units through August 2026, just 4,006 units short of the 3 lakh milestone.
The SUV's highest annual export volume was recorded in FY2018 at 50,820 units. More recently, exports increased from 4,314 units in FY2025 to 6,496 units in FY2026, while shipments during April–August 2026 stood at 2,338 units.
This highlights Creta's dual role as a major domestic sales contributor and an established export nameplate, although current overseas volumes remain considerably below their historical peak.
What Makes the Hyundai Creta Popular?
The Creta's sustained demand can be attributed to several factors, including its broad powertrain range, feature-rich cabin, established dealership and service network, and continued product updates.
Its popularity has also benefited from the broader shift in Indian consumer preferences towards SUVs. However, the midsize SUV segment has become increasingly competitive, with rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate and Skoda Kushaq offering buyers more alternatives.

Auto Punditz Take
Crossing 15 lakh domestic wholesale units represents a major achievement for the Hyundai Creta, especially in a market where consumer preferences, technology and competition have changed substantially over the past decade.
What stands out is the Creta's ability to scale from fewer than 65,000 units in its first financial year to more than 2 lakh annual units in FY2026.
However, the 10% decline in the first half of FY2027 suggests that maintaining this momentum will become increasingly challenging. With rivals expanding their offerings across petrol, hybrid, diesel and electric segments, Hyundai will need to maintain a strong balance between pricing, features, efficiency and product differentiation.
For Hyundai, the next challenge is not simply achieving the next sales milestone, but sustaining Creta's relevance in an increasingly crowded midsize SUV segment.
