Indian EV Car Sales – January 2026

With ~17k dispatches of mass-market Passenger EVs, the contribution of EVs in overall passenger cars accounted to 3.6% in January 2026.

Three OEMs now control over 97% of India’s EV passenger vehicle market.

OEM-Wise Market Share – January 2026

  • With 8,616 units, Tata continues to dominate India’s EV market, holding over half the total share. Tata’s strength lies in portfolio depth — from entry hatchbacks to premium SUVs and covering multiple price bands.

  • The Challenger Duo – MG & Mahindra fight Neck-to-Neck. MG has firmly established itself as the No.2 EV OEM. Windsor alone accounts for nearly 69% of MG’s EV volumes — a clear breakout success.

  • Mahindra is aggressively scaling its born-electric portfolio. Mahindra’s strategy is clearly premium-SUV focused — and January shows strong acceptance.

  • *Vinfast figures not available. Also, the data presented is Wholesale (dispatch of OEM to Dealers).

Best Selling EVs for January 2026:

  • Tata Nexon EV reaffirmed its position as the undisputed volume leader in India’s electric passenger vehicle segment, with 3,098 units retailed — the highest of any EV model in the country. Nexon EV alone contributed 3,098 units — nearly 19% of all EV sales in the month.

  • While Nexon EV retains the No.1 spot, Mahindra’s new-age EVs (XEV 9e, BE 6) are scaling quickly, indicating 2026 could see leadership shifts in certain months.

  • At 2,567 units, Windsor has firmly established itself as a volume contender, not a niche player.

  • Harrier EV, XEV 9e, and BE 6 together sold nearly 5,000 units — a clear signal that Indian buyers are comfortable spending ₹20L+ on EVs.

  • Comet, eC3, and Tigor numbers suggest entry-level EV adoption growth has moderated compared to premium SUVs.
