July 2025 Car Sales – Snapshot

India’s passenger vehicle market showed muted growth in July 2025, with wholesale dispatches marginally rising to 3,46,669 units, a slight increase from 3,43,026 units in July 2024. While OEMs like Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra posted stable or improving numbers, others such as Hyundai and Tata Motors witnessed notable slowdowns in domestic volumes.

Amid a slowing urban market and cautious consumer spending, SUVs and electric vehicles (EVs) remained the mainstay of growth, even as small cars and sedans continued to lose ground. July 2025 remained a dull month for the industry with no festivities or new launches. The weakening demand is a concern for the automotive industry and the shooting discounts is impacting the profitability aspect as well. All hopes are now pinned for demand to pick up on the upcoming festive season (Ganesha Chaturthi in West & Onam in Southern part of the country).

  • Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the market, accounting for almost 40% market share in the passenger vehicle segment. The company posted flat domestic sales in July 2025 vs same period last year; however grew by over 15% when compared to June 2025.

  • Mahindra & Mahindra delivered a standout performance, with almost 20% increase in passenger vehicle dispatches, primarily fueled by robust SUV demand and stood second in the OEM ranking. Models like the Scorpio-N, Thar, and XUV700 are consistently outselling rivals in their respective segments.

  • Both Hyundai and Tata saw double-digit declines in domestic sales. Hyundai fell behind Mahindra in monthly domestic numbers, losing steam in the compact SUV space despite the popularity of the Creta.

  • Tata Motors reported a 12% YoY drop, primarily due to weakening demand in its lineup and is now consistently faring in No.4 in the ranking chart.
