Auto Punditz Analysis:
October 2026 was a significant month for India's luxury electric car market.
BMW continued to demonstrate its strength through a dominant 53.2% market share, while Tesla rapidly established itself as a major competitor with one-third of total registrations.
Mercedes-Benz, meanwhile, faces a challenging competitive environment, with both annual and sequential registrations declining sharply.
Although the overall luxury EV market grew by 53.1% YoY, the 15.6% MoM decline indicates that growth remains uneven and monthly registration volumes can fluctuate considerably.
Looking ahead, the key question is whether Tesla can sustain its momentum and further narrow the gap with BMW, while Mercedes-Benz and other established luxury manufacturers attempt to regain lost ground.
For now, BMW and Tesla have emerged as the two defining players in India's luxury electric car market, collectively accounting for nearly nine out of every ten registrations in October 2026.
