Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Launched at ₹9.99 Lakh – Turbo-CNG Engine, 24.7 km/kg Mileage and Twin Cylinders
Mahindra has entered India's factory-fitted CNG passenger vehicle market with the XUV 3XO ZNG, offering a turbocharged engine, four variants and a twin-cylinder layout designed to preserve luggage space.
Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the XUV 3XO ZNG in India at a starting price of ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new CNG-powered compact SUV is available in four variants, with prices extending to ₹12.27 lakh.
The introduction marks Mahindra's entry into the mainstream CNG passenger vehicle segment and expands the XUV 3XO family's powertrain choices to petrol, diesel, electric and CNG. The XUV 3XO ZNG competes directly with the Tata Nexon iCNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG – Key Highlights
Prices range between ₹9.99 lakh and ₹12.27 lakh.
Four variants: MX Edge, RevX Edge (O), AX5 and RevX A.
1.2-litre mStallion turbocharged MPFI petrol-CNG engine.
Approximately 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque.
Claimed CNG mileage of 24.7 km/kg.
Six-speed manual transmission.
Factory-fitted twin-cylinder CNG arrangement.
270-litre boot capacity.
Six airbags and all-wheel disc brakes.
Engine and Performance
Unlike several naturally aspirated CNG-powered vehicles, the XUV 3XO ZNG uses a turbocharged petrol engine.
The 1.2-litre engine develops approximately 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, with Mahindra highlighting its ability to retain strong performance in CNG mode.
The system uses a higher-pressure 10-bar CNG injection arrangement, which the company says improves combustion and performance.
Mahindra claims a 0–60 km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds.
The CNG model is currently offered exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Mileage and Running Costs
The XUV 3XO ZNG delivers a claimed certified fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/kg.
This makes it an interesting proposition for customers who want the driving characteristics of a turbocharged compact SUV with potentially lower fuel expenses.
However, real-world fuel economy will depend on traffic, driving style, vehicle load and road conditions.
Twin-Cylinder CNG System and Boot Space
One of the most important practical features is the twin-cylinder CNG arrangement.
Instead of using a single large cylinder that occupies much of the luggage compartment, Mahindra has positioned two cylinders to preserve usable storage.
The company reports a boot capacity of 270 litres. This is especially relevant because luggage space has traditionally been a compromise in CNG-powered vehicles.
Features and Safety
Depending on the variant, the XUV 3XO ZNG offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, connected-car features and premium audio equipment.
Safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, four-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors and three-point seat belts for all occupants.
Feature availability differs across the four variants.
Auto Punditz Verdict
The Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG represents a significant addition to India's CNG SUV market.
With 200 Nm of torque, a claimed mileage of 24.7 km/kg and 270 litres of boot space, Mahindra is attempting to address three common concerns associated with CNG vehicles: performance, running costs and luggage capacity.
For buyers who want a turbocharged compact SUV with lower running costs, the XUV 3XO ZNG deserves consideration. However, its real-world mileage, CNG driving performance, boot practicality and variant-wise value will determine how competitive it proves to be.
