Maruti Suzuki confirms evaluating Jimny for the Indian market!

Updated: Feb 21, 2021

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it is still evaluating the feasibility of launching the Jimny in the Indian market. The company is right now evaluating various aspects of launching the off-roader here and deciding as to when and whether the vehicle can be launched in the domestic market, Maruti's Executive Director of Marketing and Sales, Shashank Srivastava, said in an investor call.

The 4th Gen Jimny was launched in 2018 in Japan. The car has got its design inspiration from the earlier versions.

The Jimny is a compact off-roader SUV. It comes with four and two-wheel drive options. It has also won the World Urban Car of the Year 2019.

A worthy update is that the Jimny was withdrawn from sale in the European market in the year 2020. The Sales Continued back in 2021 as a commercial vehicle, which is subject to lesser emission norms. The Jimny was also introduced in the Latin American markets through Mexico.

The assembly of Jimny commenced in India in early 2021 for the export markets.

From the Indian Markets, it is exported to the African Markets and Middle east Market.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki is weighing options to launch the off-roader in India. The car was on display at the recent 2020 Auto Expo. The car is being evaluated for a three-door or a five-door version. The possibility of the existing 1.5 Litre engine and 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission is very much on the cards.
