Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, expanding its performance-car portfolio with its first electrified AMG model based on the E-Class in the country. The plug-in hybrid performance sedan is available in two variants, with prices starting from Rs 1.45 crore, ex-showroom.
The new AMG E 53 combines a turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, offering customers the performance expected from an AMG while also providing an electric-only driving range of more than 100 kilometres.

Edition | Ex-showroom Price |
AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ Performance Edition | Rs 1.45 crore |

Bookings have opened across Mercedes-Benz dealerships in India, while customer deliveries are expected to begin immediately.
612 HP With RACE START
Powering the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid is a 3.0-litre, inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 449 hp. It is paired with a 120 kW electric motor integrated into the nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT transmission.
The combined powertrain produces:
585 hp of standard system output
612 hp with the RACE START function
750 Nm of combined torque
Mercedes-Benz claims that the performance sedan can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, although this can be increased to 280 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
Power is distributed through the standard AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel-drive system.
More Than 100 Km of Electric Range
The plug-in hybrid system includes a 400-volt battery with a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh, of which 21.2 kWh is usable for regular driving.
The AMG E 53 Hybrid offers a claimed electric-only range of more than 100 km under the WLTP testing cycle. It can also travel at speeds of up to 140 km/h without activating the petrol engine.
An 11 kW onboard AC charger is provided as standard. The battery can be charged externally or replenished through regenerative braking while driving.
A portion of the battery capacity is reserved to provide short bursts of electric assistance during performance driving.
AMG-Tuned Suspension and Rear-Wheel Steering
The sedan is equipped with AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension specifically calibrated for the hybrid powertrain. Active rear-axle steering is also offered as standard.
At speeds below 90 km/h, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels by up to 2.5 degrees, improving manoeuvrability. At higher speeds, they turn in the same direction to enhance stability.
Available AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes include:
Comfort
Sport
Sport+
Slippery
Individual
Electric
Battery Hold
The hybrid-specific Electric and Battery Hold modes allow the driver to manage when and how the stored battery energy is used.
The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package adds equipment such as an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, dynamic engine mounts, high-performance composite brakes, an AMG Performance steering wheel and the RACE START function.
Exterior Design
The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid receives a more aggressive design than the standard E-Class. Distinguishing elements include an illuminated AMG-specific radiator grille, a dedicated front bumper with larger cooling openings and front fenders that are 11 mm wider on each side.
Other exterior highlights include:
Turbo Hybrid lettering
Red-accented E 53 badge
AMG rear diffuser
Boot-lid spoiler
Four circular exhaust outlets
AMG Night Package II
Digital Light headlamps
20-inch AMG alloy wheels
The car is offered in six exterior shades: Polar White, Verde Silver, Obsidian Black, Nautical Blue, Velvet Brown and Graphite Grey Metallic.
Interior and Features
Inside, the AMG E 53 Hybrid features electrically adjustable AMG sports seats finished in ARTICO artificial leather and MICROCUT microfibre. Red contrast stitching and AMG-specific seat graphics differentiate the cabin from the regular E-Class.
The MBUX infotainment system includes AMG Performance, AMG TRACK PACE, charging and electric-range displays.
A Burmester 4D surround sound system is also offered, featuring 17 speakers, four seat-mounted exciters and a total system output of 730 watts. The system supports Dolby Atmos playback.
Rear-seat comfort features include rear sunblinds and an electrically operated roller blind for the rear windscreen.
Mercedes-Benz Continues Powertrain-Agnostic Strategy
The introduction of the AMG E 53 Hybrid reflects Mercedes-Benz India’s stated “powertrain-agnostic” strategy, under which the company plans to offer combustion-engine, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles based on customer demand.
According to Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer, the new model combines AMG racetrack performance with the efficiency and practicality required for everyday use.
The launch also expands the scope of the E-Class portfolio in India, a nameplate that has remained central to Mercedes-Benz’s presence in the country for more than three decades.
Mercedes-Benz Partners With Indian Padel Tour
Alongside the vehicle launch, Mercedes-Benz India announced a multi-year title partnership with the Indian Padel Tour for the 2026–27 season.
The Mercedes-Benz Indian Padel Tour will feature 19 tournaments, including City Opens, Grand Slams and special events. The season is scheduled to begin in Mumbai in August 2026 and conclude in Bengaluru in June 2027.
Mercedes-Benz customers will receive access to selected padel courts, exclusive customer events and early tournament registration opportunities. Buyers of the AMG E 53 Hybrid will also receive direct entry to an Indian Padel Tour Grand Slam event.

Auto Punditz Take
The AMG E 53 Hybrid represents an interesting middle ground between a conventional high-performance sedan and a fully electric luxury car. Its electric-only range should be sufficient for many urban commutes, while the six-cylinder engine and electric motor together deliver performance approaching that of more focused AMG models.
At Rs 1.45 crore, however, the E 53 Hybrid is positioned as a specialised performance offering rather than a mainstream E-Class derivative. Its appeal will largely be centred on buyers who want strong acceleration and AMG driving dynamics without committing exclusively to either an internal-combustion or fully electric powertrain.
