MG Hector Tomahawk Crosses 10,000 Bookings; Windsor Nears 1 Lakh Wholesale Sales Milestone

JSW MG Motor India is strengthening its position in India's electric vehicle market, with the recently launched Hector Tomahawk crossing 10,000 bookings and the popular Windsor EV approaching the milestone of 1 lakh cumulative wholesale sales.

The company has confirmed that the MG Windsor has recorded approximately 88,000 wholesale units since its introduction in 2024. Meanwhile, the Hector Tomahawk, available with electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, is attracting interest from customers across metropolitan cities as well as smaller towns.

These developments highlight the growing importance of electrified vehicles to MG's India strategy, particularly as competition intensifies across mainstream and premium electric SUV segments.

MG Hector Tomahawk Receives Over 10,000 Bookings

The newly launched MG Hector Tomahawk has crossed 10,000 bookings within a relatively short period of its introduction in August 2026.

According to Lakshmi Ram Kumar Subbaraj, Director – Sales, JSW MG Motor India, bookings have come from Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, indicating that demand for electrified SUVs is extending beyond India's largest cities.

Although the company has not disclosed an exact waiting period, it has indicated that delivery lead times could exceed eight weeks.

The Hector Tomahawk is built on MG's ADAPT multi-new-energy-vehicle architecture and is available with two powertrain options:

  • Hector Tomahawk EV: Fully electric SUV with a 69.2 kWh battery and a claimed range of 517 km.

  • Hector Tomahawk PHEV: Plug-in hybrid SUV with a 20.5 kWh battery, claimed electric-only range exceeding 115 km and combined driving range of over 1,100 km.

The EV is offered in five- and seven-seat configurations, while the PHEV is exclusively a seven-seater. MG commenced customer deliveries of the electric version in September 2026, while PHEV test drives and deliveries are scheduled for November 2026.

MG Windsor Approaches 1 Lakh Wholesale Sales

The MG Windsor continues to be one of the strongest-performing models in the company's Indian portfolio.

Launched in 2024, the electric crossover has recorded approximately 88,000 cumulative wholesale units, putting it around 12,000 units away from the significant 1 lakh milestone. The Windsor currently accounts for approximately 50–55% of JSW MG Motor India's overall volumes, making it a key contributor to the company's performance.

MG also reported approximately 20% sequential growth in Windsor sales, reflecting sustained interest in the model despite increasing competition.

The company expects the festive season to support demand further, although it has not confirmed a timeline for reaching the 1 lakh milestone.

Importantly, these are wholesale figures representing dispatches to dealerships, not necessarily retail deliveries to end customers.

Hector Tomahawk Prices and Battery-as-a-Service Options

JSW MG Motor India is offering the Hector Tomahawk with both conventional vehicle ownership and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) options.

Model

Introductory BaaS price

Introductory full purchase price

Hector Tomahawk EV

₹13.99 lakh + ₹4.90/km

₹19.49 lakh

Hector Tomahawk PHEV

₹21.79 lakh + ₹3.20/km

₹25.69 lakh

Starting ex-showroom prices announced at launch, applicable to a limited number of bookings. Current offers may vary.

Under BaaS, customers pay a lower initial vehicle price while incurring a separate battery rental charge based on distance travelled. Although this can reduce the upfront purchase cost, buyers should compare total ownership expenses, including rental terms, before choosing between the two options.

EV Adoption Expands Beyond Metropolitan Markets

MG's recent performance also reflects the changing geographical distribution of electric vehicle demand.

According to company management, Windsor sales are almost equally split between Tier 1 cities and other markets, with smaller cities contributing meaningfully to volumes.

The company currently has approximately 510 customer touchpoints across 210 cities and is evaluating further expansion.

Meanwhile, industry data cited by ETAuto indicates that electric passenger vehicle penetration reached 8.5% in September 2026, compared with 5.74% in September 2025. This represents an increase of 2.76 percentage points.

BaaS and Buyback Assurance Support EV Adoption

Beyond new product introductions, MG is focusing on affordability and ownership assurance to attract customers.

The automaker believes that Battery-as-a-Service, improving public charging infrastructure and assured buyback arrangements can address several concerns associated with electric vehicle ownership.

MG's three-year Windsor buyback package currently offers approximately 60% of the vehicle's resale value, subject to specified conditions. The company also offers buyback arrangements extending up to five years through its partners.

These initiatives may make EV ownership more attractive to buyers concerned about long-term battery performance, depreciation and resale value. However, customers should carefully examine eligibility, mileage limits and vehicle-condition requirements.

Auto Punditz View

The latest developments suggest that JSW MG Motor India is pursuing a two-pronged growth strategy.

The Windsor is providing the company with significant sales volumes in the mainstream electric passenger vehicle market. Its contribution of more than half of MG's overall volumes demonstrates how important this single model has become to the automaker.

The Hector Tomahawk, meanwhile, allows MG to strengthen its presence in the larger family SUV space with both fully electric and plug-in hybrid options.

For prospective buyers, the Tomahawk PHEV could be particularly relevant to families seeking electric driving for daily commuting without depending exclusively on charging infrastructure during longer journeys.

However, the more important test will come when the company translates the Tomahawk's 10,000-plus bookings into sustained retail deliveries.

The Windsor's approaching 1 lakh wholesale milestone and the initial response to the Tomahawk underline MG's progress in India. The challenge now is sustaining demand as more automakers introduce competitive electric and hybrid vehicles.
