MG Hector Tomahawk EV Name Emerges for Upcoming 7-Seater Electric SUV; Debut on August 26

JSW MG Motor India’s upcoming three-row electric SUV is taking shape ahead of its official debut later this month. The company has released another teaser of the new model, and the latest campaign provides a strong indication that the SUV could be called the MG Hector Tomahawk.
The upcoming model will be particularly significant for MG because it will become the first production vehicle based on the company’s new ADAPT architecture in India. It will initially arrive as a battery-electric vehicle, while additional electrified powertrains could follow later.
MG has also opened pre-bookings for the upcoming SUV, with customers reportedly able to reserve the vehicle for ₹21,000 ahead of its scheduled August 26, 2026 unveiling.
Why the Hector Tomahawk Name Looks Increasingly Likely
MG has not simply displayed another partially camouflaged SUV in its latest promotional campaign.
The teaser prominently features a Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk fighter aircraft, providing what appears to be a deliberate clue towards the vehicle's potential name.
This becomes particularly relevant as the Hector Tomahawk name has reportedly been filed for trademark protection in India.
Together, the trademark activity and Tomahawk aircraft imagery significantly strengthen the possibility that MG's upcoming electric SUV will ultimately reach showrooms carrying the Hector Tomahawk badge.
However, until JSW MG Motor India formally announces the production name, it should still be considered likely rather than officially confirmed.
A New SUV Above the Existing Hector
Despite potentially carrying the Hector nameplate, the Tomahawk will not simply be an electric version of the existing MG Hector.
The upcoming SUV sits on an entirely different architecture and is expected to be positioned as a larger, more technologically advanced three-row product.
MG's teaser highlights the vehicle's substantial dimensions through phrases centred around additional space and passenger accommodation.

MG has shown the cabin from above, revealing a three-row layout with seven seats. The configuration is expected to follow a 2+3+2 arrangement, with a bench seat in the second row.
That could give the new MG an interesting advantage in India's EV market.
While the number of electric SUVs available in India continues to increase, relatively few products currently combine a genuine three-row configuration with an electric drivetrain.
The Hector Tomahawk could therefore target buyers who currently gravitate towards large petrol and diesel SUVs but want to move towards electric mobility without giving up passenger capacity.
Familiar Wuling Connection
The upcoming MG SUV is widely expected to share its fundamentals with the Wuling Starlight 560/Eksion sold in overseas markets.

At the front, the SUV appears to feature rectangular headlamps accompanied by distinctive LED daytime-running lights.
Other visible design elements include prominent front fenders, substantial body cladding, roof rails and pull-type door handles.
The rear gets its own distinctive LED lighting signature along with a relatively upright tailgate.
Rather than using an overtly futuristic crossover design, MG appears to be giving the Tomahawk a more traditional SUV silhouette — something that could work particularly well with Indian customers looking for road presence and three-row practicality.
Panoramic Sunroof and Premium Cabin
The teaser also suggests that the SUV will receive a relatively premium equipment package.

The architecture has been engineered to support different electrified propulsion technologies rather than being restricted to a single drivetrain.
MG has indicated that ADAPT can accommodate technologies including:

The related overseas electric SUV gives us some indication of what might be possible.
Reports point towards a battery pack of roughly 69 kWh, driving a front-mounted electric motor.
A driving range in the region of 500 km or more under the applicable overseas test cycle has also been reported.
These specifications should not yet be treated as the final numbers for India.
Indian-market battery capacity, motor output, charging capability and certified range should become clearer when the vehicle is formally unveiled.
PHEV Could Follow the Electric Version
The flexibility of the ADAPT architecture also opens another interesting possibility.
After introducing the Hector Tomahawk EV, MG could eventually bring a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV.
The related international vehicle already has an electrified hybrid configuration combining a petrol engine, electric motor and battery pack.
A PHEV would potentially allow MG to appeal to customers who want substantial electric-only driving capability without depending entirely on public charging infrastructure during long-distance trips.
However, MG has so far prioritised the battery-electric version for the Indian launch.

Where Could MG Position the Tomahawk?
Pricing will ultimately determine the SUV's competitive position.
MG already has considerable experience in India's EV market through products including the Comet EV, Windsor EV and Cyberster.
The Hector Tomahawk could allow the company to move into another relatively under-served part of the market — large three-row electric SUVs.
Its combination of seven seats, a sizeable battery and premium features could potentially put it in consideration alongside upcoming and existing premium electric SUVs, including products from Mahindra and Tata.
Rather than focusing purely on performance, however, MG appears to be prioritising space, versatility and family usability.
Auto Punditz Take
The most interesting aspect of the Hector Tomahawk isn't necessarily its name — it is MG's decision to make its first ADAPT-platform vehicle a large seven-seat EV.
India's EV market has rapidly expanded across hatchbacks, compact SUVs and premium crossovers, but genuine three-row electric family vehicles remain comparatively limited.
That leaves MG with an opportunity.
If the company can combine a practical third row, around 500 km of usable claimed range, competitive fast charging and aggressive pricing, the Hector Tomahawk could attract customers who like the space offered by vehicles such as the Hector, Safari and XUV700/7XO but are ready to move towards electric propulsion.
The ADAPT architecture is equally important over the longer term. Its ability to accommodate EV, PHEV, strong-hybrid and range-extender configurations gives MG considerably more flexibility than launching a platform engineered around one propulsion technology.
August 26 should therefore reveal more than just another MG SUV — it could offer the clearest indication yet of JSW MG Motor India's next phase of electrified product strategy.
