Mid SUV Sales June 2026: Segment Grows 35% YoY; Scorpio Leads, Creta Slips Sharply

The Mid SUV segment continued its strong run in June 2026, recording 1,14,971 units as compared to 85,270 units in June 2025, registering a robust 34.8% year-on-year growth. The segment remained one of the biggest contributors to India’s passenger vehicle market, supported by strong demand for rugged SUVs, hybrid SUVs, lifestyle vehicles, and new product additions.
The segment saw a clear shift in momentum, with Mahindra dominating the charts, Maruti Suzuki gaining ground with the new Victoris and Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos posting a sharp recovery, and Tata strengthening its presence with the Sierra and Harrier. Hyundai Creta, traditionally one of the strongest names in the space, witnessed a steep decline in June 2026 dispatches.

Mahindra Scorpio emerged as the best-selling Mid SUV in June 2026 with 14,097 units, growing 10.7% YoY from 12,740 units in June 2025. With a 12.3% segment share, the Scorpio continued to underline Mahindra’s dominance in the rugged SUV space.
Mahindra Thar followed in second position with 10,669 units, up 11.8% YoY.
The biggest highlight of the month was the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which secured the third position with 10,035 units and an 8.7% segment share.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara also delivered a strong performance with 9,092 units, growing 33.2% YoY over June 2025. Together, the Victoris and Grand Vitara gave Maruti Suzuki a combined volume of 19,127 units in the segment.
The Kia Seltos registered one of the strongest recoveries in the segment, with dispatches rising to 9,654 units in June 2026 from 5,225 units in June 2025. This translated into an impressive 84.8% YoY growth, giving the Seltos an 8.4% segment share. The Seltos’ performance reflects continued buyer interest in feature-rich urban SUVs. Its strong rebound also helped Kia remain among the key players in the Mid SUV category.
Mahindra XUV 7XO ranked fifth with 9,244 units, growing 49.1% YoY. The SUV contributed 8.0% to the segment’s June 2026 volumes.
Mahindra Bolero followed closely with 9,115 units, up 21.9% YoY.
Toyota’s Hyryder recorded 9,104 units, growing 22.0% YoY.
Hyundai Creta ranked ninth in June 2026 with 7,168 units, down sharply from 15,786 units in June 2025. This marked a 54.6% YoY decline, pulling its segment share down to 6.2%.
Tata Sierra recorded 6,392 units in June 2026 and captured a 5.6% segment share.
Tata also saw strong growth from the Harrier, which sold 2,962 units, up 135.3% YoY from 1,259 units in June 2025. The Safari grew 37.9% YoY to 1,271 units, while the Curvv declined 14.9% YoY to 1,753 units.
MG Windsor sold 4,056 units in June 2026, growing 6.8% YoY and holding a 3.5% segment share.
Renault Duster made its presence felt with 1,011 units, marking its re-entry into the competitive Mid SUV space.
Volkswagen Taigun posted a marginal 1.2% YoY growth with 1,182 units, while the Skoda Kushaq grew 25.3% YoY to 992 units.

Top 10 Models Contribute Over 82% of Segment Volumes
The top 10 models alone contributed 94,570 units, accounting for over 82% of the Mid SUV segment in June 2026. This shows that the segment remains heavily concentrated around a few high-volume nameplates.
Mahindra was the clear leader by OEM presence, with seven models in the list: Scorpio, Thar, XUV 7XO, Bolero, 9S, XEV 9e and BE 6. These models together contributed 50,299 units, giving Mahindra nearly 44% share of the Mid SUV segment.

June 2026 was a strong month for the Mid SUV segment, with volumes growing by nearly 35% YoY. The growth was driven by a combination of established rugged SUVs, new entrants, hybrid SUVs and premium urban SUVs.
Mahindra remained the biggest force in the segment, led by the Scorpio, Thar, XUV 7XO and Bolero. Maruti Suzuki’s Victoris and Grand Vitara gave the brand a strong combined presence, while Kia Seltos and Tata Harrier delivered notable YoY gains.
