Suzuki e Sky Electric Kei Car Debuts With 310 Km Range, Weighs Just 1,030 Kg

Suzuki has taken another major step in its electric vehicle journey with the debut of the e Sky, a compact battery-electric kei car developed primarily for the Japanese market. The production-oriented model evolves from the Vision e-Sky concept showcased earlier and is scheduled to make its Japanese market debut in autumn 2026. Suzuki’s Japanese dealer network has also begun promoting the upcoming model through a dedicated teaser campaign.
The Suzuki e Sky stands out for its exceptionally compact footprint, low kerb weight and a claimed driving range of 310 km, making it an interesting new entrant in Japan’s growing electric kei-car segment.

Suzuki e Sky Dimensions and Weight
The new Suzuki e Sky measures:

The length, width and height closely follow the dimensions Suzuki had previously announced for the Vision e-Sky concept. Suzuki describes the model as a compact BEV designed around everyday commuting, shopping and occasional longer journeys.
At just 3.4 metres long, the e Sky is considerably smaller than most conventional hatchbacks. Its tall-body design and relatively long wheelbase should nevertheless help maximise passenger space within its kei-car footprint.
310 Km Driving Range
One of the biggest upgrades over the concept is the claimed driving range.
The production-oriented Suzuki e Sky is said to offer a reference range of 310 km in its two-wheel-drive configuration. This represents an improvement over the Vision e-Sky concept, which had earlier been associated with a range of more than 270 km.
Suzuki has not yet revealed key technical details such as battery capacity, electric motor output or DC fast-charging speeds.
The relatively low 1,030 kg kerb weight is likely to play an important role in achieving the claimed efficiency. Lightweight construction is particularly significant for smaller EVs, where installing a very large battery would increase both cost and weight.
Heat Pump Aims to Improve Winter Efficiency
The Suzuki e Sky is also equipped with a direct heat-pump system along with an air-heated electric heater.
Heat pumps can help reduce the amount of battery energy consumed for cabin heating compared with conventional resistance heaters, particularly in colder climates.
For a compact EV with a relatively small battery pack, improving the efficiency of auxiliary systems such as heating can make a meaningful difference to real-world driving range.
Easy Drive Pedal for Urban Driving
Another city-focused feature is Suzuki’s Easy Drive Pedal system.
The system is designed to increase deceleration when the driver releases the accelerator pedal, reducing the need to repeatedly switch between the accelerator and brake during congested urban driving.
It should effectively provide a stronger regenerative-braking-like driving experience suited to stop-go traffic.
Vehicle-to-Load Functionality
Suzuki is also giving the e Sky Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.
V2L allows electrical appliances and equipment to draw power directly from the vehicle’s high-voltage battery.
Official imagery demonstrates potential uses such as powering a laptop or operating appliances while outdoors. The feature could therefore be useful for camping, remote work or as a temporary power source during emergencies.
10.1-Inch Touchscreen and Connected Navigation
Despite its small dimensions, the e Sky gets a relatively modern interior technology package.

The connected navigation system can consider factors such as remaining battery range and traffic conditions while suggesting routes and suitable charging locations.
This type of EV-specific navigation could become increasingly important as electric cars move beyond being secondary urban vehicles and are used for longer journeys.
Distinctive Kei-Car Styling
Visually, the Suzuki e Sky follows a typically Japanese kei-car formula with a tall and upright cabin intended to maximise interior space.
At the front, the EV features rectangular headlamps with distinctive C-shaped lighting signatures and a slim black panel connecting the lighting elements.
Other exterior highlights include squared wheel arches, a contrasting roof, vertically positioned rear lamps and a relatively flat tailgate.
Suzuki is also showcasing the car in an Immersion Blue exterior shade along with a dedicated interior colour treatment.
Japan Launch in Autumn 2026
Suzuki has now officially confirmed that the new e Sky will debut in Japan during autumn 2026.
The company has opened a teaser website for the model, while multiple Suzuki dealer outlets in Japan began announcing the upcoming launch on August 24, 2026.
Pricing has not yet been disclosed.
The e Sky will enter a Japanese electric kei-car market that is gradually becoming more competitive as manufacturers look to introduce affordable, compact EVs suited primarily to urban mobility.
Could Suzuki e Sky Come to India?
At present, Suzuki or Maruti Suzuki has not announced the e Sky for India.
Its Japanese kei-car dimensions are also specifically tailored around Japan’s vehicle regulations, so the exact e Sky shown here should not automatically be considered an upcoming Maruti Suzuki product.
However, the underlying philosophy is highly relevant to India.
A lightweight, compact EV with sufficient urban range and aggressive pricing could potentially fit below larger electric SUVs and compete in a segment currently occupied by models such as the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV.
Whether Suzuki eventually adapts the e Sky platform or its technology for markets such as India remains to be seen.

The most interesting aspect of the Suzuki e Sky isn't simply its 310 km range — it is the combination of that claimed range with a kerb weight of only 1,030 kg.
Electric cars have steadily become heavier as manufacturers install increasingly large battery packs. Suzuki appears to be taking a different approach by focusing on efficiency, compact dimensions and lower mass.
That philosophy could be particularly relevant for price-sensitive markets such as India, where an affordable EV does not necessarily require a huge battery if efficiency and vehicle weight are carefully managed.
The e Sky itself may remain a Japan-focused kei car, but the engineering direction behind it could ultimately be more important for Suzuki's future entry-level EV strategy globally.
