Tata Aeris Launched at ₹5.29 Lakh: Tigor Successor Gets New Design, More Features and CNG Option
Tata Motors has launched the Aeris compact sedan in India at an introductory starting price of ₹5.29 lakh, ex-showroom. The new model effectively succeeds the Tigor with a substantially revised exterior and interior, while retaining the familiar 1.2-litre petrol and CNG powertrains.
The Aeris is available in five trims — Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished — and Tata has opened bookings immediately. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.

Tata has announced manual-transmission prices for both petrol and CNG versions. AMT pricing will be revealed separately.

The AMT option will be offered with both petrol and CNG powertrains on all trims except Smart, although prices have not yet been announced.
Tata Aeris Gets a Much Sharper Exterior
The Aeris retains the basic compact-sedan proportions of the Tigor but gets a considerably more contemporary appearance.
Up front, Tata has introduced slimmer LED headlamps with eyebrow-style LED DRLs, a gloss-black grille and a redesigned bumper incorporating pixel-style LED fog lamps.
Higher variants get 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, while the Smart, Pure and all CNG versions use 14-inch wheels. The rear has also been substantially revised with slimmer
LED tail-lamps connected by a red trim element and a redesigned bumper.
The Aeris will be available in six colours: Nitro Crimson, Pure Grey, Dandeli Drizzle, Pristine White, Daytona Grey and Dune Glow.
Dimensions Remain Compact-Sedan Friendly

The petrol version's 419-litre boot is particularly competitive for the segment.
The CNG model continues Tata's dual-cylinder approach, allowing more usable luggage space than a conventional single-cylinder CNG installation.
Interior Gets Tiago-Inspired Makeover
The cabin is one of the biggest areas of change.
The Aeris uses a lighter-coloured interior theme and a dashboard layout influenced by the updated Tiago. Equipment includes a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, digital/semi-digital driver display and a new two-spoke steering wheel.
Higher trims add several features that were not previously associated with the Tigor:

Wireless smartphone charger
360-degree camera
Blind-spot monitor
Leatherette upholstery
Connected-car technology
Tyre-pressure monitoring
Hill-hold control
ISOFIX child-seat mounts
An interesting addition is a DashCam Recorder function, which uses the surround-view cameras for recording.
One downgrade, however, is the audio system: the Aeris gets a six-speaker setup, compared with the eight-speaker system offered on the previous model.
Six Airbags Standard
Safety equipment has received particular attention.
The Aeris comes with six airbags as standard, while higher variants add the 360-degree camera and blind-spot monitoring system. Tata also offers TPMS, hill-hold functionality and ISOFIX mounting points.
This is likely to become an important competitive point in the compact-sedan segment, where safety equipment has increasingly become part of the core purchase decision rather than an optional extra.
Same 1.2-Litre Petrol Engine Continues
Mechanically, Tata has chosen continuity.
The Aeris uses the familiar 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 86hp and 113Nm. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.
The CNG version produces 76hp and 97Nm, and Tata will also offer both manual and AMT transmissions with the factory-CNG setup.
This means the Aeris' biggest changes are concentrated around styling, cabin technology, equipment and positioning rather than outright mechanical performance.
From Tigor to Aeris: More Than a Name Change?
The Aeris effectively gives Tata's compact sedan a fresh identity after nearly a decade of the Tigor nameplate.
Yet mechanically, it remains closely linked to its predecessor. The 1.2-litre petrol engine, CNG option and transmission choices continue largely unchanged.
The transformation is therefore primarily about making the sedan more competitive in design, technology, comfort and safety.
That strategy makes sense in a segment where SUVs have taken much of the attention
but models such as the Dzire continue to generate substantial volumes.
Auto Punditz Take
The ₹5.29 lakh introductory price is arguably the biggest surprise of the Tata Aeris launch.
Rather than positioning the heavily updated sedan at a sizeable premium over the Tigor, Tata has used aggressive entry pricing while simultaneously adding features such as six airbags as standard, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless charging and a 360-degree camera.
The familiar petrol and CNG engines mean buyers should not expect a major change in performance. Instead, the Aeris' proposition rests on more equipment, sharper styling and competitive pricing.
The next important piece of the puzzle will be the AMT pricing, particularly for CNG. If Tata keeps those variants competitively priced, the Aeris could give the compact-sedan category a meaningful new challenger just as India's affordable-car market is showing renewed momentum.
