Tata Motors Sales May 2026: Punch & Nexon Lead the Charge as Sales Jump 42% YoY

Tata Motors recorded a strong performance in May 2026, with total car sales standing at 59,090 units, compared to 41,557 units in May 2025. This translates to a healthy 42% year-on-year growth, driven primarily by the continued dominance of the Punch and Nexon, along with a strong contribution from the newly added Sierra. On a month-on-month basis, Tata’s sales remained almost flat, with May 2026 volumes marginally higher than 59,000 units sold in April 2026.

• Tata Punch emerged as the brand’s highest-selling model in May 2026 with 20,208 units. It registered an impressive 54% YoY growth over May 2025, when it had sold 13,133 units.

• Tata Nexon was close behind with 19,100 units in May 2026. The compact SUV posted a strong 46% YoY growth, up from 13,096 units in May 2025. Month-on-month, Nexon sales improved by 5% over April 2026. Together, the Punch and Nexon contributed 39,308 units, accounting for nearly 67% of Tata Motors’ total sales in May 2026.

• Tata Sierra recorded 6,606 units in May 2026. However, compared to April 2026, Sierra sales declined by 10% from 7,316 units. Despite the monthly dip, the Sierra remained Tata’s third-highest-selling model!

• Tata Harrier delivered one of the standout performances of the month. Sales rose to 2,815 units, compared to just 894 units in May 2025. This reflects a massive 215% YoY growth, the highest among Tata models in the list.

• While Tata’s SUV portfolio remained strong, some models saw pressure in May 2026. Tiago sold 4,178 units, down 35% YoY and 24% MoM. The Tigor witnessed a sharper decline, with sales falling to 531 units, a drop of 51% YoY and 45% MoM. Safari sold 1,057 units, down 5% YoY and 28% MoM, indicating softer demand compared to April 2026.

• Tata Altroz registered 2,915 units in May 2026, growing 5% YoY and 13% MoM. The hatchback showed steady improvement over April.

• Tata Curvv sold 1,680 units, down 45% YoY, but posted a healthy 20% MoM growth over April 2026.

Key Highlights

Tata Motors’ May 2026 sales were largely driven by its SUV-heavy portfolio. The Punch and Nexon remained the biggest contributors, while Sierra added meaningful incremental volumes. Harrier’s sharp YoY growth was another major positive.

However, hatchbacks and sedans such as Tiago and Tigor continued to face pressure. Safari also saw a notable month-on-month decline.
