SUVs continue to dominate the Indian passenger vehicle market, accounting for a majority of the top-selling models. The February 2026 sales data clearly shows that compact and mid-size SUVs remain the preferred choice among buyers due to their higher ground clearance, strong road presence, and feature-rich offerings.

Tata Leads the SUV Chart

The Tata Nexon emerged as the best-selling SUV in India with 19,430 units, maintaining its strong momentum across petrol, diesel, and electric variants. Close behind was the Tata Punch, which sold 18,748 units, reinforcing Tata Motors’ strong presence in the compact SUV segment.

Together, these two models highlight Tata Motors’ dominance in entry and compact SUV segments.

Hyundai Creta and Maruti Brezza Continue Strong Run

The Hyundai Creta remained one of India’s most popular mid-size SUVs with 17,938 units sold, while the Maruti Suzuki Brezza followed closely with 17,863 units.

Both SUVs continue to benefit from strong brand recall, feature-rich updates, and wide dealership networks.

Mahindra and Maruti Strengthen SUV Portfolio

The Mahindra Scorpio recorded 14,665 units, securing the fifth spot and continuing its strong demand in both urban and rural markets.

Maruti Suzuki also had strong representation in the list with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Maruti Suzuki Victoris, highlighting the brand’s expanding SUV portfolio.

Meanwhile, lifestyle SUVs like the Mahindra Thar continued to see strong demand with 11,047 units sold.
