The Top 25 Selling Cars constituted over 77% of the cars sold in August 2022. It had 11 models from Maruti, 4 from Hyundai, 3 from Tata, Kia & Mahindra each, and 1 each from Toyota. In terms of volumes, Maruti Suzuki models contributed 51 percent of volumes in the Top 25!
Only 7 out of the Top 10 cars came from Maruti Suzuki's stable. Maruti's Baleno overtook Wagon R to become the best-selling car for August 2022. Do note that Baleno + Glanza combined sold a mammoth 21,429 units in Aug'22! Brezza outsold Nexon and emerged as the best-selling SUV for August 2022. Cross badging / Badge Engineering is working well for the Maruti+Toyota duo - Brezza & Urban Cruiser collectively sold 18,324 units. The Japanese duo is now leveraging their partnership to enter the highly competitive Mid SUV space too.
Tata Nexon was the only model in the Top 5 but fell behind Brezza last month. Hyundai Creta & Tata Punch were the other Non-Maruti models in the Top 10. An interesting assessment is that all Non-Maruti models were SUVs!
OEMwise Count in the Top 25 selling cars -
Maruti had 11 models in the Top 25. On average; the volumes were 11,839 units per car.
Hyundai with 4 models on the list averaged 10,162 units per model.
Tata had 3 models in the Top 25 and averaged 11,433 units per model (which is more than Hyundai!).
All 3 Kia's mass market models fared in the Top 25 with an average of 7,349 units per model.

Utility Vehicles dominated with 13 models (9 SUVs & 4 MUVs) in the Top 25 and combined volumes of over 124k units.
Hatchbacks had 10 models in the Top 25 and were able to surpass SUV volumes.
MUVs had 4 models in the Top 25 and the best-selling MUV was Ertiga which was also the 12th best-selling car for Aug'22!
