Vietnamese EV manufacturer accelerates its India electric two-wheeler entry with a dedicated dealership network spanning 15 states and territories, alongside plans to strengthen charging infrastructure and after-sales support.

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is taking a significant step towards entering India's highly competitive electric two-wheeler market. The company has signed Letters of Intent (LOIs) with more than 50 prospective electric two-wheeler dealer partners, laying the groundwork for a nationwide retail network.

The proposed expansion will cover 34 cities across 15 states and territories, marking VinFast's first dedicated distribution initiative for electric two-wheelers in India.

The agreements were formalised at VinFast's manufacturing complex in Hai Phong, Vietnam, on October 8, 2026, during a visit by prospective Indian dealership partners.

VinFast's Electric Two-Wheeler Dealership Expansion

VinFast intends to establish more than 50 dedicated electric two-wheeler showrooms across strategically selected Indian markets.

The geographic rollout reflects the company's ambition to build a broad retail footprint rather than restricting its initial operations to a handful of metropolitan cities.

Region

States and territories identified

North India

Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, Punjab

Central India

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh

West India

Maharashtra, Gujarat

South India

Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh

East India

West Bengal, Odisha

The network will target markets with substantial two-wheeler demand, helping VinFast establish a presence across both developed and emerging electric mobility markets.

Importantly, these agreements represent planned dealerships rather than 50 already operational showrooms. The company has not provided individual showroom opening dates or a city-wise dealership list.

Dealer Partnerships Supported by Manufacturing Exposure

As part of the partnership programme, prospective Indian dealers visited VinFast's manufacturing facility in Vietnam to understand its production operations, manufacturing capabilities and electric two-wheeler portfolio.

For VinFast, the programme serves two purposes: introducing future partners to the brand's manufacturing ecosystem and building dealer confidence ahead of the Indian product rollout.

A dealership-led expansion strategy is particularly relevant in India, where electric two-wheeler customers place considerable importance on local service availability, product reliability, spare parts support and accessible charging solutions.

Charging and After-Sales Infrastructure to Be Key Priorities

Alongside the expansion of its retail footprint, VinFast has confirmed that it is working on charging infrastructure and after-sales service capabilities in India.

Anurag Saxena, CEO of VinFast India E-Scooters, indicated that the dealership partnerships represent the beginning of the company's electric two-wheeler journey in India, with parallel efforts to develop charging and customer-support facilities.

These investments could become essential differentiators in a market where ownership experience increasingly influences buying decisions.

However, VinFast has not yet disclosed the number of planned two-wheeler charging locations, service centres or a detailed timetable for network activation.

Which VinFast Electric Two-Wheelers Could Launch in India?

Although VinFast has confirmed its dealership expansion, the latest announcement does not specify the models it intends to launch, their technical specifications or their prices.

The Vietnamese manufacturer already offers multiple electric scooters internationally, and its Indian two-wheeler plans have begun attracting attention.

Previous reports have identified products such as the VinFast Evo, Feliz and Viper as possible candidates for the domestic market. Separately, design patent filings for the Viper electric scooter and another electric motorcycle have been reported in India.

These developments indicate potential product directions but should not be interpreted as confirmation of the final India-bound lineup.

A successful market entry will require VinFast to address several buyer expectations, particularly competitive acquisition costs, practical real-world range, convenient charging, battery durability and dependable servicing.

India's Electric Two-Wheeler Market Offers Significant Growth Potential

VinFast's expansion comes at a time when electric mobility continues to gain traction across India's two-wheeler industry.

According to figures highlighted in the company's announcement:

The relatively modest electric share of the overall two-wheeler market underscores the long-term opportunity available to manufacturers entering the segment.

At the same time, limited penetration does not automatically guarantee rapid growth for new entrants. Product affordability, charging convenience, financing options and local distribution networks will remain critical to adoption.

VinFast Expands Beyond Electric Cars in India

VinFast entered India's passenger electric vehicle market in 2025 and has subsequently expanded its automotive operations through retail partnerships, local manufacturing and assembly activities.

Its Indian passenger vehicle portfolio includes the VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs and the VF MPV 7.

The new electric two-wheeler dealership initiative represents a separate expansion avenue and could help VinFast build a wider electric mobility ecosystem in the country.

Competition: Can VinFast Challenge Established Electric Two-Wheeler Brands?

VinFast will enter an increasingly competitive market dominated by established two-wheeler manufacturers and specialist EV companies.

According to September 2026 electric two-wheeler analysis , the segment recorded 2,07,542 registrations in September 2026, growing 88.9% year-on-year.

These manufacturers already benefit from established products, growing sales volumes and developing service ecosystems.

VinFast's entry could introduce another international competitor, particularly if it combines attractive pricing with a strong ownership package.

However, the company's ability to compete will depend on the competitiveness of its India-specific product range and the execution of its dealership strategy.

AutoPunditz Take

VinFast's strategy of securing over 50 dealership partnerships before unveiling its India-bound electric two-wheeler lineup indicates a network-first approach.

This could help the Vietnamese manufacturer tackle the challenge of ensuring retail and service accessibility for new EV brands when deliveries start.

The opportunity is significant as India's electric two-wheeler industry grows, with established brands like TVS and Bajaj solidifying their positions while others compete on technology, performance, and affordability.

VinFast's next phase is crucial, requiring the translation of dealer commitments into operational showrooms, competitive product introductions, and reliable charging and service support.

While dealership agreements show intent, VinFast's impact on India's market will depend on product pricing, launch timelines, localisation, and customer experience.

With a proposed network in 34 cities, VinFast aims for a broader India presence, but converting this footprint into significant sales remains uncertain.
