VinFast VF7 Outsells VF6 in Early FY2027: Premium SUV Leads Vietnam Carmaker's India Push

VinFast's India journey is beginning to take shape, and the company's first two months of FY2027 wholesale data reveal a surprising trend. The premium VF7 electric SUV has emerged as the brand's strongest volume contributor, comfortably outselling the smaller VF6 despite its higher positioning and expected price premium.

According to SIAM wholesale data, VinFast dispatched 1,210 units of the VF7 between April and May 2026, compared to 933 units of the VF6, giving the larger SUV a lead of nearly 30%.

Premium Positioning Appears to Be Resonating

The sales trend suggests that Indian EV buyers are increasingly willing to move up the value chain for larger, feature-rich electric SUVs. The VF7 offers a more premium package, larger dimensions, greater cabin space, and a stronger road presence than the VF6, factors that appear to be influencing buyer preference.

What makes the achievement even more noteworthy is that the VF7's momentum comes at a time when VinFast is broadening its India portfolio beyond its core SUV lineup.

More Than Just VF6 and VF7

While the VF6 and VF7 currently account for the majority of VinFast's retail focus, the wholesale numbers also include contributions from the company's recently introduced VF MPV7, a three-row electric people mover, as well as the Limo Green, a fleet-oriented electric vehicle targeted at commercial mobility operators.

The inclusion of these products indicates that VinFast is not limiting itself to the passenger EV segment alone. Instead, the company is simultaneously building a presence across private buyers, family-oriented MPV customers, and fleet operators.

However, SIAM data does not separately disclose wholesale volumes for the MPV7 and Limo Green, making it difficult to determine their individual contributions at this stage. As retail sales ramp up and dealership coverage expands, a clearer picture of model-wise demand is expected to emerge over the coming quarters.

Fleet Opportunity Could Become a Key Growth Driver

The Limo Green's arrival is particularly significant because fleet operators represent one of India's fastest-growing EV customer segments. Ride-hailing services, corporate transportation providers, and airport taxi operators are increasingly transitioning toward electric vehicles to reduce operating costs.

If VinFast can establish a strong foothold in this space, the Limo Green could eventually become an important volume driver alongside the VF6 and VF7.

The first two months of FY2027 suggest three important trends:

Indian EV buyers are showing increasing acceptance of premium electric SUVs.
