Bajaj Auto reported a drop of 30 percent in May 2021 with overall volumes of 2,71,862 units and was down from 3,88,016 units in April 2021. As usual, CVs reported the highest drop and the domestic sales declined 94 percent in May 2021 vs April 2021!
Lockdown in several parts of the country hit the automobile sales in May 2021 and even Bajaj Auto wasn't shielded from it. While Bajaj Two Wheeler's domestic sales dipped 52 percent MoM; the OEM was able to divert the production towards exports and the exports dropped by just 19 percent.
Bajaj Auto's exports strategy is working in favour of the automaker in these tough times - As the domestic market is reeling with Covid related issues; Export Markets have been stable and the same is reflecting in the OEMs volumes. Bajaj Export volumes contribution shot up from 65 percent in Apr'21 to 77 percent in May'21.
India's Commercial Vehicle segment volumes are dipping with every passing month and Bajaj's slump in CV volumes is a testimony of it. We have recently shared how Three Wheeler sales had dropped to a 17 year low in FY2021 (source). With decline in acceptance of shared mobility; we anticipate the segment to be in red as of now.
