BMW F 450 RR Unveiled: 420cc Twin-Cylinder Supersport With 48 HP, Winglets and Easy Ride Clutch
BMW Motorrad has officially unveiled the new BMW F 450 RR on October 15, 2026, expanding its growing 450cc motorcycle family with a fully faired supersport model. Inspired by the flagship BMW S 1000 RR, the new motorcycle combines aggressive aerodynamics, advanced rider-assistance technologies and a lightweight chassis.
Powered by a 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 48 hp and 43 Nm, the F 450 RR joins the F 450 GS adventure motorcycle and F 450 R roadster. All three share the same engine architecture, with the RR receiving sport-specific chassis geometry and engine tuning.
The motorcycle is also significant for India, as the BMW 450 platform is manufactured by TVS Motor Company at its Hosur facility under the BMW–TVS partnership.
While BMW has confirmed overseas launch plans for 2027, Indian pricing and launch dates have not yet been officially announced.

Design: Inspired by the BMW S 1000 RR
The F 450 RR adopts design elements associated with BMW's larger RR motorcycles, including a sharply sculpted front fairing, distinctive LED headlamps, integrated aerodynamic winglets and a raised tail section.
Unlike a simple faired version of the F 450 R, BMW has developed the RR with its own supersport-oriented chassis geometry and ergonomics.
Clip-on handlebars, a sculpted fuel tank and a two-piece seat create a sporty riding position. The motorcycle also features asymmetric fairing panels, with characteristic gills on the right side.
The 790mm seat height should make the motorcycle relatively approachable for a range of riders, although real-world comfort remains to be assessed.

Engine and performance
At the heart of the BMW F 450 RR is the familiar 420cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine, using a distinctive 135-degree crankshaft configuration.
Despite producing the same peak power and torque figures as its siblings, the engine has been tuned for supersport applications.
BMW claims that 80% of peak torque is available from just 3,000rpm, suggesting that the motorcycle should offer usable acceleration without constantly requiring high engine speeds.
The six-speed gearbox can be equipped with Shift Assistant Pro, which enables clutchless upshifts and downshifts. A reversible gearshift pattern is also available for track-oriented riding.

Easy Ride Clutch: A notable new feature
One of the F 450 RR's most interesting technologies is BMW's Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), available as part of the Innovation Package on the M Sport variant.
The system uses a centrifugal clutch mechanism, allowing riders to start and stop without manually operating the clutch lever. Combined with Shift Assistant Pro, it reduces the need for clutch operation during everyday riding.
Importantly, this is not an automatic gearbox. The rider still selects gears manually.
For Indian buyers, such a feature could offer practical benefits in congested city traffic while retaining the involvement of a traditional sports motorcycle.
Suspension, braking and electronics
BMW has equipped the F 450 RR with a steel tubular frame using the engine as a stressed member. Suspension duties are handled by KYB components, while the braking hardware combines a Brembo four-piston front caliper with a ByBre rear caliper.
The electronics package includes ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Brake Control and engine drag torque control. Rain, Road and Race modes are standard, with configurable Race Pro functionality available on the M Sport model.
Other features include a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, USB-C charging, full-LED lighting and heated grips.

BMW F 450 RR India launch and expected price
BMW has confirmed that the F 450 RR will reach select overseas markets in 2027. In the United States, the M Sport variant is priced at $7,815 before destination charges.
For India, the motorcycle is expected to arrive during 2027, although BMW Motorrad has not announced an official launch schedule or price.
Some Indian automotive portals currently estimate a starting price of approximately ₹4.75 lakh (ex-showroom). This remains an unofficial projection rather than confirmed pricing.
Competition in India
If launched in India, the BMW F 450 RR will compete with performance-focused motorcycles including the Aprilia RS 457, Kawasaki Ninja 500 and Yamaha R3.
The BMW's key differentiators could include its advanced electronics, Easy Ride Clutch technology, relatively accessible seat height and distinctive RR styling.
Auto Punditz View
The F 450 RR represents an important addition to BMW Motorrad's expanding entry-level premium motorcycle portfolio.
Rather than competing purely on peak horsepower, BMW appears to be positioning the motorcycle around handling precision, accessible performance and electronic sophistication.
For Indian enthusiasts, the combination of local manufacturing, premium BMW branding and a 420cc twin-cylinder engine could make the F 450 RR particularly attractive.
However, pricing will ultimately determine its competitiveness against established supersport rivals, particularly the Aprilia RS 457. Ride quality, maintenance costs and dealer support will also be important buying considerations.
If BMW can achieve competitive Indian pricing, the F 450 RR could become one of the more interesting lightweight supersport launches of 2027.
