JCB Remains the Undisputed Market Leader

JCB India continued to command an exceptionally strong position in India's wheeled construction equipment market.

The company registered 2,605 units in August 2026, up from 2,126 units a year earlier, translating into growth of approximately 22.5%.

However, JCB's market share fell from 54.10% in August 2025 to 50.43% in August 2026, a decline of 3.67 percentage points.

This does not indicate declining sales—JCB actually sold nearly 480 more machines than last year. Instead, the fall in share reflects the considerably faster growth recorded by several competing manufacturers.

Even after the decline, roughly one out of every two wheeled construction equipment vehicles registered during August was a JCB.

Action Construction Equipment Crosses 10% Market Share

Action Construction Equipment retained second position with 556 registrations, compared with 395 units during August last year.

Sales increased by a healthy 40.8% YoY, allowing ACE's market share to rise from 10.05% to 10.76%.

The company remains the only manufacturer apart from JCB to command a double-digit share of the wheeled construction equipment market.

Escorts Kubota Records 67% Growth

Escorts Kubota delivered one of the strongest performances among the larger players.

Retail registrations increased from 246 units in August 2025 to 412 units in August 2026, representing impressive growth of around 67.5%.

Its market share consequently increased from 6.26% to 7.98%, a gain of 1.72 percentage points.

This was one of the biggest market-share improvements among the leading construction equipment manufacturers during the month.

Ajax Engineering Holds Fourth Position

Ajax Engineering registered 282 units in August 2026 against 218 units in the corresponding period last year.

The company recorded around 29.4% YoY growth.

However, with the overall market growing slightly faster, Ajax's market share remained broadly stable at 5.46%, versus 5.55% last year.

Bull Machines Nearly Doubles Sales

Bull Machines emerged as another notable performer.

Retail volumes increased from just 88 units to 173 units, translating into nearly 97% growth.

Its market share increased substantially from 2.24% to 3.35%, enabling the company to consolidate its position among the top five manufacturers.

Caterpillar and Tata Hitachi Record Steady Growth

Caterpillar India registered 121 units, up around 11% YoY from 109 units.

Its market share, however, declined from 2.77% to 2.34%, as its growth remained considerably below the overall industry's 31.5% expansion.

Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery registered 117 units, compared with 97 units last year, recording growth of around 20.6%.

Its share stood at 2.26%, slightly below the 2.47% recorded in August 2025.

CASE New Holland Nearly Doubles Registrations

CASE New Holland Construction Equipment recorded a significant jump in volumes, rising from 54 units in August 2025 to 106 units this year.

This equates to growth of approximately 96% YoY.

Its market share improved accordingly from 1.37% to 2.05%.

Smaller OEMs Growing Rapidly

Some of the most dramatic percentage gains came from relatively smaller manufacturers.

Indo Farm Equipment registered 73 units against just 19 units last year, representing growth of more than 284%. Its market share jumped from 0.48% to 1.41%.

Liugong India saw registrations increase from only seven units to 62 units. While the low base magnifies the percentage growth, its market share nevertheless increased significantly from just 0.18% to 1.20%.

Doosan Bobcat also performed well, with registrations rising by around 48.5% to 49 units.

Top 3 Players Control Nearly 70% of the Market

Despite growth among smaller manufacturers, India's wheeled construction equipment market remains relatively concentrated.

The top three players accounted for:

  • JCB India – 50.43%

  • Action Construction Equipment – 10.76%

  • Escorts Kubota – 7.98%

Together, these three companies controlled approximately 69.2% of the market during August 2026.

JCB alone remains considerably larger than its nearest competitors, although its declining market-share percentage suggests that competition within the industry is gradually broadening.

August 2026 Construction Equipment Market – Key Takeaways

The strongest headline from August is the 31.5% expansion of the overall market, as registrations increased by more than 1,200 units year-on-year.

JCB maintained an overwhelming lead with more than 2,600 registrations but saw its share slip below the 51% mark as competitors expanded more rapidly.

Action Construction Equipment strengthened its second position, while Escorts Kubota emerged as one of the strongest performers among major manufacturers.

Bull Machines and CASE New Holland almost doubled their respective volumes, while Indo Farm and Liugong posted exceptionally high growth from smaller bases.

Overall, the August numbers indicate broad-based growth in India's construction equipment market rather than expansion being driven by a single manufacturer.

India’s wheeled construction equipment retail sales increased 31.5% YoY to 5,166 units in August 2026, with JCB commanding 50.43% market share.

Auto Punditz View

August 2026 was a strong month for India's wheeled construction equipment industry. The 31%+ YoY increase in registrations points towards healthy underlying demand, while the changing market-share picture is equally interesting.

JCB remains far ahead of every competitor, but its market share dropping from 54.1% to 50.4% despite increasing volumes by 22.5% highlights how rapidly some of the smaller manufacturers are expanding.

The performance of ACE, Escorts Kubota, Bull Machines and CASE New Holland suggests competition in the segment could become increasingly interesting over the coming months.
