India’s car market ended the calendar year on a high note in December 2025, with robust sales growth of 25.8% vs the same period last year. After a year of moderate growth, year-end demand accelerated sharply, driven by tax incentives, festive and promotional offers, and shifting demand patterns.
Festive promotions, year-end discounts, and special financing deals encouraged buyers to finalize purchases before the calendar turned. December 2025 emerged as a standout month for car sales in India, with strong year-on-year growth across most OEMs. December is generally a good month as deal seekers finalize the purchases, and the volumes were also backed by GST reduction. Dealer inventories also reduced significantly towards the end of December 2025. Shorter stock days compared to earlier months suggest strong real consumer demand, rather than just dealers stocking up in anticipation.

Maruti Suzuki continued its market leadership, reporting approximately 1.78 lakh domestic sales, a 37% increase from the same period last year. This strong performance was driven by higher demand for entry-level and compact models. The OEM has gained the highest Market Share (+3.7%) in Dec'25 vs Dec'24.
Mahindra regained the second spot from Tata, with a lead of just 900 units. It registered robust numbers with 50,946 units sold, a 23% increase, and solid SUV demand.
Tata Motors saw 50,046 units sold, up about 13%, and slipped to third position. Tata has garnered massive bookings for the much-anticipated Sierra launch and shall be aiming for a consistent No.2 spot in CY2026.
Hyundai’s growth was flat compared to rivals, even with the recently launched New Venue. Its YoY growth was the lowest in the Top 6 OEMs, and it also lost considerable Market Share (2.6%).
Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded 34,159 domestic dispatches, up nearly 37%, helped by the strong volumes of models like the Innova and Fortuner.
Kia India achieved its best-ever December, more than doubling sales year-on-year to around 18,659 units, benefiting from strong customer sentiment.
