Demand for SUV body style has reached an all-time high!

SUV sales have shot up to 34 percent in Q1 CY2021 and it is the first time that SUV body style has crossed 30 percent share!

  • Demand for SUV/Crossover body style has reached to an all-time high

  • Budget crossover like Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger will further eat into the sub 4m hatchback and sedan segment

  • Manufactures who already have put all their eggs in SUV/Crossover basket will have a good chance in future

Noteworthy SUV/Crossover Body Style Sub Segments -

  • Sub 4m monocoque SUV/Crossover segment has become very crowded

  • Despite being over 7 years old, Ford Ecosport is maintaining a healthy segment share

  • In absence of a competitive drivetrain, Maruti Brezza is losing segment share

  • Despite being pricey, KIA Sonet is doing quite well

  • Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, has made a niche-budget-sub segment for themselves

  • Move up in size, Hyundai-KIA’s non-identical twins has decimated competition and garnered 90% segment size

  • They are the only ones to have a very competitive and cost-effective diesel engine in the segment

  • Hector loaded with all bells and whistles dominates the large monocoque SUV segment started by XUV500 in 2011

  • Harrier and New Safari together command an impressive 44% share

  • Upcoming XUV700 will surely alter the pie in future and Alcazar launch is also going to make the big difference!

  • Large and true blue ladder chassis SUV segment is still dominated by Toyota Fortuner

  • With a more powerful engine and recent facelift, has given more firepower to already potent product

  • MG Gloster, as a challenger, has eaten into Ford Endeavour’s pie share

  • Ford is here to be blamed, as they put an underpowered BS6 engine, in otherwise, very competent package

  • Fortuner will certainly gain more share in the coming future but would be interesting to see how Gloster will sustain itself in company of proven SUV credentials
