Hybrid Car Sales Decline 8% in June 2026; Toyota Hyryder Leads as Maruti Victoris Surges

India’s hybrid passenger vehicle market recorded sales of 8,322 units in June 2026, declining by 8.1% month-on-month from 9,056 units in May 2026.

The overall decline was primarily caused by a sharp reduction in Toyota Innova Hycross volumes. However, demand for several other hybrid models remained healthy, with the Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Victoris and Invicto all registering sequential growth.

The Toyota Hyryder emerged as India’s highest-selling hybrid car during the month, while the Maruti Suzuki Victoris recorded the strongest percentage growth.

Hybrid car sales in India for June 2026 led by Toyota Hyryder, followed by Innova Hycross and Maruti Grand Vitara
Toyota Hyryder led India’s hybrid car sales in June 2026, while total segment dispatches declined by 8.1% month-on-month.

Key Takeaways

India’s hybrid car market declined in June 2026, but the headline contraction does not reflect the performance of every model. The Toyota Hyryder strengthened its leadership with double-digit growth, while all three Maruti Suzuki hybrids recorded sequential gains. The Victoris was the standout performer, with sales rising by more than 91%.

At the same time, the Innova Hycross experienced a sharp correction after its strong May performance. Since the Hycross contributes a substantial share of overall hybrid volumes, its decline pulled the entire segment down.

The data also shows that India’s hybrid market remains highly concentrated. Toyota alone accounted for nearly four out of every five hybrid cars sold, while the Hyryder and Innova Hycross together represented more than three-fourths of the segment. With Kia all set to launch its New Hybrid, the segment is going to be even more interesting ahead.
