Hyundai and TVS Jointly Architect India’s Smartest E3W

Hyundai Motor and TVS Motor have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to advance the development and commercialization of innovative Electric Three-Wheeler (E3W) solutions designed specifically to address India's last-mile mobility needs. The partnership was formalized following the successful presentation of the E3W concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 where the two companies showcased a prototype of their Electric Three-Wheeler (E3W).

A Strategic Collaboration with Big Intent

Hyundai’s global EV expertise combined with TVS Motor’s deep understanding of India’s two-wheeler market creates a compelling synergy. While Hyundai has already made its mark with premium EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, TVS has been steadily gaining traction in the electric two-wheeler space with the TVS iQube.

This partnership is expected to focus on developing affordable, high-quality electric mobility solutions tailored specifically for Indian consumers—where price sensitivity and practicality play a crucial role.

Hyundai Motor: Will lead the design and R&D. Leveraging its "human-centric" design philosophy, Hyundai aims to bring world-class safety and aesthetics to a segment often overlooked for its "cool factor."

TVS Motor: Will provide the electric platform and local muscle. With a deep-rooted understanding of Indian roads and a massive manufacturing footprint, TVS will handle production, local sales, and eventually, exports to global markets

What makes this E3W special?

  • Adaptive Ground Clearance: A lifesaver for navigating India's monsoon-flooded streets.

  • Thermal Management: Specialized cooling systems designed specifically for the scorching tropical heat.

  • Dual-Purpose Design: Modular interiors that can switch between passenger seating and cargo delivery.

  • Local Soul: A commitment to 100% local sourcing, which means lower costs for buyers and a boost for the Indian supply chain.

Why It Matters for India

India is the world’s largest three-wheeler market. Millions rely on these "autos" for daily commutes and small-business logistics. By electrifying this segment, Hyundai and TVS are addressing two major issues at once: urban pollution and rising fuel costs.

A key aspect of the partnership is the localisation of component manufacturing, with major parts to be sourced and produced within India — expected to strengthen the domestic supply chain, generate employment, reduce vehicle costs, and ensure faster after-sales support.

With dedicated cross-functional teams already in place, the race is on to get the first production model onto the streets. This partnership signals that the "electric revolution" in India is moving past luxury cars and onto the vehicles that actually move the nation.
