Top 10 Fuel Efficient BS6 Vehicles available in India
BS6 transition has led to the discontinuation of many frugal diesel engines. OEMs like Maruti and Renault have completely given away diesel engines from their portfolio. There was one big benefit with diesel engines – “Mileage”. All of us remember the ‘Kitna Deti Hai’ campaign from Maruti which struck the right chord with Indians. Mileage was one of the most important part in the consideration set for car buyers.
A lot has changed in the fuel efficiency figures with the BS6 influx. That is why we have collated the list of India’s Top 10 Fuel Efficient BS6 Cars (Diesel/Petrol). Rank 1 : Hyundai Aura AMT Diesel : ARAI mileage of 25.4 Kmpl : Hyundai’s newly launched Aura Compact Sedan is powered by 1.2 L U2 CRDi, 3 cylinder, turbo-diesel engine, and produces maximum power of 75 Bhp with 190 Nm of torque. This Compact diesel engine is mated with 5 gear manual and AMT gear box, and it is the smallest diesel powered engine currently on sale in India.
Rank 2 : Tata Altroz : ARAI Mileage of 25.11 Kmpl : Altroz which is marketed as Gold Standard since launch, is powered by 1.5 L , 4 cylinder, turbo-diesel engine, and produces maximum power of 75 Bhp with 190 Nm of torque (Using albeit lower tunes version of Tata Nexon) and hits on mileage chart. This engine is mated with 5 gear manual and AMT gear box.
Rank 3 :Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Diesel : ARAI mileage of 25.1 Kmpl : Grand i10 uses same diesel engine of Hyundai Aura. Here also this 1.2 L U2 CRDi, 3 cylinder, turbo-diesel engine, produces maximum power of 75 Bhp with 190 Nm of torque, however ARAI mileage is slightly lower then sibling Compact Sedan. This engine is mated with 5 gear manual and AMT gear box.
Rank 4 : Hyundai Verna Diesel : ARAI mileage of 25 Kmpl : Till the 5th generation Honda City goes on sale, the Hyundai Verna is the only diesel midsize sedan available for sale (Maruti , Skoda & Volkwagen already stopped producing diesel engines). Verna is recently updated with a new 115hp, 250 NM , 1.5-litre diesel engine which is shared with the Creta, the Verna , borrowed from sister Kia, has good looking appeal for buyers. The Verna diesel-manual delivers 25kpl whereas automatic gearbox returned 21.3kpl.
Rank 5 : Honda Amaze Diesel : ARAI mileage of 24.7 Kmpl : Honda’s compact sedan is powered by a 100hp, 1.5-litre, 4 cylinder, diesel engine, having power of 100 horses and produce 200 Nm torque. It is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT-automatic gearbox. The diesel-manual version is mileage is 24.7 kmpl, giving this compact sedan a spot on the top 5. However CVT engine has lower engine output of 80 bhp & 160 Nm.
Rank 6 : Ford Figo & Ford Aspire : Figo hatchback and Aspire compact sedan, uses Fords’s 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine and produces 100 BHP with 215 Nm of torque, both models have an identical ARAI rating of 24.4 kmpl.
Rank 7 : Maruti Suzuki Dzire Petrol : ARAI mileage of 24.12 Kmpl : Maruti Dzire recently upgraded with Suzuki’s K12C petrol engine, gets improved mileage and power figures. This advanced petrol motor produces 89 bhp of power with 113 NM torque. It is the best selling Compact sedan of India for quite years now, and Maruti has recently gave mild updates to this 3rd generation Dzire vehicle, with more bells and whistles and start stop system. Its also 1st petrol model in this list.
Rank 8 : Maruti Baleno & Toyota Glanza : ARAI mileage of 23.87 Kmpl : Another model of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, is powered by 1.2 L petrol dual VVT engine , smart hybrid engine. It come with mild hybrid and uses start stop system. Engine produce 89 Bhp of power with 113 NM torque. Toyota Glanza is rebadged version of Maruti’s Baleno with same mechanicals and minor cosmetic changes.
Rank 9 : Ford Freestyle : ARAI mileage of 23.8 Kmpl : Freestyle Cross Hatch is also powered by same Fords’ 100hp, 215 NM 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual returns 23.8km on a litre of diesel.
Rank 10 : Hyundai Venue : ARAI Mileage of 23.3 Kmpl : Last in our list and 4th from Hyundai , is the Venue. This frugal Compact SUV has been upgraded recently with 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine also borrowed from Kia Seltos which uses fixed-geometry turbocharger. Output is lowered to 100hp and 240Nm of torque. Hyundai Venue is the most affordable and most efficient diesel compact SUV available in India.
