Hyundai Motor India recorded 47,837 units in May 2026, registering a healthy 9% year-on-year growth over 43,861 units sold in May 2025. However, compared to April 2026, Hyundai’s domestic dispatches declined by 8%, as volumes dropped from 51,902 units to 47,837 units.
The brand’s performance in May 2026 was largely driven by its SUV portfolio, especially the Creta, Venue and Exter, which together contributed over 70% of Hyundai’s total sales.
Hyundai Sales May 2026 – Model-wise Performance

Hyundai Creta continued to be the brand’s highest-selling model with 15,235 units in May 2026. Sales were almost flat on a month-on-month basis compared to 15,291 units in April 2026, but the SUV still posted a 3% YoY growth over May 2025. Creta alone contributed nearly 32% of Hyundai’s total sales in May 2026, underlining its importance in the company’s Indian portfolio.
The biggest highlight of the month was the Hyundai Venue, which sold 11,714 units in May 2026 against 7,520 units in May 2025. This translates into a strong 56% YoY growth, making it Hyundai’s fastest-growing model in the portfolio. However, on a monthly basis, Venue sales declined by 6% from 12,420 units in April 2026.
Hyundai Exter recorded 6,595 units in May 2026, up 12% YoY from 5,899 units in May 2025.
Hyundai Aura sold 5,077 units, down 3% YoY, but it improved by 11% MoM compared to April 2026. This made Aura one of the few Hyundai models to show sequential growth in May.
i20 Elite sold 4,749 units, registering a healthy 16% YoY growth. However, the premium hatchback declined 16% MoM from 5,624 units in April 2026.
Grand i10 saw a steep decline, with sales falling to 2,920 units in May 2026 from 4,344 units in May 2025. This marked a 33% YoY drop and a 30% MoM decline.
Verna also remained under pressure, selling just 723 units, down 22% YoY and 16% MoM.
Alcazar recorded 814 units, down 12% YoY and 4% MoM.
Hyundai’s SUV-led models — Creta, Venue, Exter, Alcazar, IONIQ 5 and Tucson — together contributed around 34,368 units, accounting for nearly 72% of Hyundai’s May 2026 sales.
Key Takeaways
Hyundai’s May 2026 performance was positive on a yearly basis, but the month-on-month decline indicates some moderation after a stronger April.
The Creta remained the volume leader, the Venue delivered the strongest YoY growth, and the Exter continued to support Hyundai’s SUV strategy. On the other hand, models like Grand i10, Verna and Alcazar witnessed pressure, reflecting the broader market shift away from hatchbacks and sedans toward SUVs.
Overall, Hyundai’s 9% YoY growth in May 2026 was encouraging, but the 8% MoM decline shows that the brand will need consistent traction across both SUVs and mass-market models to sustain momentum in the coming months.
