Hyundai Neira Electric MPV Breaks Cover at GIIAS 2026; Production Launch Expected by End of the Year

Hyundai has unveiled the Neira Prototype at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, previewing a new three-row electric family vehicle developed primarily for the Indonesian market. The production version of the Hyundai Neira is expected to be introduced before the end of 2026.
The Neira is particularly significant because it appears to share its basic architecture and several body panels with the Kia Carens Clavis EV sold in India. However, Hyundai has given the electric MPV a substantially different exterior identity, aligning it with the brand’s latest global design language.
Hyundai Neira Gets a Distinctive New Design
Although the Neira’s relationship with the Kia Carens Clavis EV is clearly visible in its overall proportions, glasshouse and three-row silhouette, the front and rear sections have been redesigned.
At the front, the prototype features a smooth, largely enclosed fascia suited to an electric vehicle. A wide pixel-inspired lighting element stretches across the upper section, while vertically arranged lighting units are positioned lower on the bumper.
The conventional grille has been eliminated, helping the Neira achieve a cleaner and more futuristic appearance. The charging port is expected to be positioned at the front, although Hyundai has yet to publish the final production specifications.
The side profile continues to resemble the Carens-based donor vehicle, with a long roofline, large windows and a practical MPV-like shape. The prototype also receives aerodynamically styled alloy wheels and pronounced wheel-arch cladding.
At the rear, Hyundai has introduced a redesigned tailgate, vertically oriented LED lighting elements and a prominent light bar. These changes give the Neira a distinct visual identity despite its shared underpinnings.
Three-Row Cabin Aimed at Family Buyers
The Hyundai Neira is expected to be offered with a three-row seating configuration, positioning it as an electric family car rather than a conventional five-seat crossover.
Hyundai has not yet fully revealed the production-specification interior. However, the vehicle is likely to receive a cabin layout similar in principle to the Carens Clavis EV, with a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected-car functions and multiple charging options.
Depending on the variant, the Neira could be offered with six- and seven-seat configurations. Higher versions may feature captain seats in the second row, while more affordable variants could receive a conventional bench seat.

Battery and Range Details Yet to Be Confirmed
Hyundai has not officially disclosed the Neira’s battery capacity, motor output, charging performance or certified driving range.
Considering its apparent technical relationship with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the production model could use a similar front-wheel-drive electric architecture. The Kia is offered in India with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery options, although Hyundai may recalibrate the powertrain or introduce a market-specific battery configuration for Indonesia.
Reports surrounding the prototype have mentioned a possible driving range of around 355 km, but the testing standard and final production specification remain unclear. Therefore, this figure should be treated as preliminary until Hyundai publishes the homologated range.
Fast-charging support is expected to be part of the package, along with selectable regenerative-braking levels and multiple driving modes.
Developed With Indonesia in Focus
The Neira is expected to become an important part of Hyundai’s expanding electric-vehicle strategy in Indonesia. Hyundai already manufactures electric vehicles and battery components in the country, giving it a substantial local industrial presence.
A locally assembled three-row electric vehicle could allow Hyundai to benefit from Indonesia’s growing EV ecosystem while addressing the strong regional demand for spacious MPVs.
The Neira could eventually compete with a growing range of electric and electrified family vehicles from Chinese, Japanese and Korean manufacturers. Its combination of three-row practicality, local production and Hyundai’s established dealership network could become a major selling point.
Hyundai’s official Indonesian website currently highlights a broad portfolio of SUVs, MPVs, hybrids and electric vehicles as the company continues expanding its electrified range in the market.
Is the Hyundai Neira Coming to India?
An Indian launch has not been announced.
The Neira’s apparent relationship with the Kia Carens Clavis EV makes it technically possible for Hyundai to introduce a similar product in India. However, such a vehicle would also create substantial overlap within Hyundai Motor Group’s domestic portfolio.
Kia already sells the Carens Clavis EV in India, while Hyundai currently offers the Creta Electric and Ioniq 5. Hyundai may therefore prefer to focus on electric SUVs for India rather than introduce another Carens-based three-row EV under its own brand.
Nevertheless, India’s electric MPV segment remains relatively underdeveloped. Growing demand for spacious electric family vehicles could eventually encourage Hyundai to evaluate a local version, particularly if the Carens Clavis EV demonstrates strong market acceptance.
For now, the Neira should be regarded as an Indonesia-focused model, with no confirmed plans for India.

The Hyundai Neira illustrates how Hyundai Motor Group could increasingly use common electric-vehicle foundations to create differentiated products for individual brands and markets.
Rather than simply rebadging the Kia Carens Clavis EV, Hyundai has given the Neira a recognisably different front and rear design. Its three-row layout could also make it highly relevant in markets such as Indonesia, where MPVs remain an important part of the passenger-vehicle industry.
The key questions now concern the production model’s battery capacity, certified range, pricing and level of localisation. If Hyundai can position it competitively, the Neira could become one of the more significant mass-market electric family vehicles in Southeast Asia.
