JSW Combat India Debut Expected on December 4: A New Plug-In Hybrid SUV Challenger

India’s premium SUV market could soon welcome a new badge. JSW Motors is reportedly preparing to unveil the Combat on December 4, 2026, introducing a five-seat plug-in hybrid based on the Chery Group’s Jetour T2. Assembly is planned at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra.

According to Autocar India, the Combat will spearhead JSW Motors’ independent passenger vehicle business, which is separate from JSW MG Motor India. The reported unveiling date should not be treated as confirmation of customer deliveries.

The expected powertrain details are:

Parameter

Reported expectation

Engine

1.5-litre turbo-petrol

Hybrid system

Two electric motors; front-wheel drive

Battery

18.4kWh

Transmission

Three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission

Combined output

360hp and 610Nm

Electric range

90km, NEDC-claimed

Total range

Up to 1,100km, claimed

These figures remain subject to India-spec confirmation. The range claims should not be interpreted as Indian certified figures or guaranteed real-world results.

Jetour’s official international product page confirms that the T2 i-DM combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid engine with a three-speed hybrid transmission. Its equipment includes a 15.6-inch touchscreen, Level 2 driver assistance and a camera system marketed as providing a 540-degree view. These establish the donor model’s technology package; the final Combat specification will depend on JSW’s India offering.

A plug-in hybrid could make the Combat particularly interesting for households with access to regular charging. Unlike a conventional hybrid, a PHEV can recharge its traction battery from an external power supply, allowing suitable everyday journeys to be completed using electric propulsion while retaining a petrol engine for longer trips.

For buyers, the practical question will be how much of their weekly driving can be covered after charging at home. Those who charge frequently could make better use of the electric capability. Buyers who rarely plug in should assess fuel consumption with a depleted battery before assuming substantial running-cost savings.

Styling is expected to remain boxy, with revised lighting and bumpers. It is estimated to be launched an ex-showroom price of ₹40–50 lakh, but official pricing remains unannounced.

At that proposed price, AutoPunditz believes the Combat will need to establish a convincing ownership proposition alongside its design and technology. Prospective buyers should look closely at battery warranty, service coverage, spare-parts availability and the cost of maintaining the hybrid system. The reported front-wheel-drive configuration also deserves attention. Buyers attracted by the SUV’s rugged appearance should evaluate its actual traction and terrain capability against their requirements once the final specification is available.

Auto Punditz Take: The Combat’s strongest opportunity could be among buyers who want electric commuting capability without moving entirely away from petrol. However, its success will depend on the complete package: competitive pricing, usable electric range, efficiency after battery depletion and dependable after-sales support. The December unveiling should provide a clearer basis for judging whether JSW can turn that proposition into a compelling premium SUV.
