Around 3.17 Lakh passenger cars were sold in the Indian market in June 2025. Vehicle Dispatches were down by 6.4% v/s June last year and dropped by 9.1% compared to May 2025.
June 2025 remained a dull month for car sales, and the overall demand looks to be subdued. The month did not have any festivities and was the start of monsoon and school season, otherwise. It was also the onset of ashada (inauspicious time) and impacted the overall purchase in the Southern region. The OEMs across the table saw a considerable dip in volumes apart from the likes of Mahindra, Toyota, MG, Skoda, and Citroen.
June 2025 was the third month in succession that Mahindra superseded Hyundai and Tata for the second position. M&M also recorded the highest growth among the Top 5 OEMs! The Indian auto major is having a dream run, and the demand for its SUVs remains pretty strong. It is surprising to see its models like Thar doing ~10k volumes monthly consistently. No one had ever expected a lifestyle off-roader to gain such significant numbers in a market like India. M&M has also found immense success in its EV offerings - Both BE 6 and XEV 9e combined sold 4,011 units in June 2025!
Also notable is MG's rising volumes, supported by its EV models. MG sold 4,972 EVs in June 2025 and contributed to over 85% of JSW MG India's sales! Windsor is now consistently doing ~4k figures every month and shall undoubtedly be the most successful model for MG in its Indian operations to date. The model is priced extremely aggressively and is gaining strong acceptance from the buyers.
Both Hyundai and Tata are struggling to reach the 50k sales mark and are experiencing stiff competition from other OEMs. Tata has gone all out to market the Harrier.ev and will try its best to recover lost volumes from the Mahindra EVs. Hyundai has also shown plans for new products onslaught and will try to bounce back in the Indian market.

Maruti recorded total sales of 1,18,906 units dispatches last month, which was -13.3% vs last year's same month and -12.5% vs last month. The Market Share drop was the highest, from 40.4% in June'24 to 37.4% in June'25.
Mahindra retains its second spot for the third month in succession and has also recorded one of the highest YoY growth in June'25. M&M has gained tremendous acceptance of Roxx in Tier-1 markets, and the overall popularity of its SUVs has made it a strong No.2 now.
Hyundai was able to retain its No.3 rank in June 2025 and was almost 7k units ahead of Tata Motors. "In the domestic market, the geopolitical situation continued to affect the market sentiment," the OEM's Chief Operating Officer, Tarun Garg, said in a press statement.
