Kia Carens Clavis EV Gets Lifetime Battery Warranty: 15 Years, Unlimited Kilometres for Buyers Since August 1
Kia India has announced a major warranty upgrade for the Carens Clavis EV, introducing what it calls a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty for eligible private customers.
The headline benefit is substantial: 15 years of high-voltage battery coverage with no kilometre limit for the first owner. The revised warranty applies to Carens Clavis EVs retailed on or after August 1, 2026.
For EV buyers concerned about long-term battery ownership, the move removes one of the biggest limitations of a conventional battery warranty — the kilometre cap.
What Does Kia's 'Lifetime' Battery Warranty Mean?
Kia defines the lifetime warranty as 15 years for the first owner of the Carens Clavis EV. During this period, there is no kilometre restriction on the high-voltage battery warranty.
That means a private first owner driving 20,000 km, 30,000 km or even more annually does not have to worry about crossing a predetermined mileage ceiling during the 15-year warranty period.
There are, however, important conditions buyers should understand.

Kia's own FAQ confirms that the lifetime warranty is not applicable to vehicles used commercially.
What Was the Previous Battery Warranty?
This represents a considerable upgrade over the Carens Clavis EV's original warranty package.
Kia's earlier brochure specified an 8-year/1,60,000 km warranty for the high-voltage battery.
For eligible first owners, the new programme effectively:
increases the time coverage from 8 years to 15 years and removes the 1,60,000 km ceiling altogether.
The standard vehicle warranty is separate. Kia currently lists the Carens Clavis EV with a 3-year/unlimited-kilometre standard vehicle warranty.
Existing Carens Clavis EV Owners Can Upgrade Too
There is also good news for customers who purchased the electric MPV before the new programme became applicable.
Eligible private customers with Carens Clavis EVs retailed before August 1, 2026 can upgrade from the earlier battery warranty to the lifetime programme for a one-time administrative fee of ₹3,400. The upgrade is subject to vehicle evaluation and Kia's applicable terms and conditions.
This is important because it prevents early Carens Clavis EV customers from being completely excluded from the substantially longer warranty introduced later.
Why Unlimited Kilometres Matter
The absence of a kilometre ceiling could be particularly relevant for high-running private users.
Under the earlier 1,60,000 km limit, a customer travelling 25,000 km annually could reach the mileage ceiling in around 6.4 years, despite the nominal eight-year warranty period.
At 30,000 km per year, the same ceiling would be reached in about 5.3 years.
With the new first-owner warranty, mileage itself no longer ends the high-voltage battery coverage during the specified 15-year period, subject to Kia's warranty conditions.
That makes the change more meaningful than simply extending the warranty by another few years.
Kia Carens Clavis EV Battery and Range Options
The Carens Clavis EV is currently available with two battery configurations.
The 42kWh Standard Range versions have an ARAI-certified range of up to 404 km, while the larger 51.4kWh Extended Range battery offers up to 490 km of claimed range.
The 42kWh versions use a 135hp electric motor, while the 51.4kWh versions produce 171hp. Both use a front-wheel-drive configuration.
The EV is offered in both six- and seven-seat configurations across the broader range.
Kia Is Expanding Its EV Ownership Strategy
The warranty announcement also complements Kia's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme for the Carens Clavis EV. Kia says the new warranty scheme will operate alongside the battery-rental option.
The company's newer Syros EV also comes with a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty, suggesting that long-duration battery coverage is becoming part of Kia's broader EV ownership strategy in India.
For buyers, however, it is important to distinguish the high-voltage battery warranty from the warranty covering the entire vehicle.
What Happens When the Car Is Sold?
This is perhaps the most important fine print.
The 15-year/unlimited-kilometre benefit applies to the first owner. It should therefore not be interpreted as a transferable 15-year unlimited-kilometre warranty attached permanently to the vehicle.
Kia states that for the second owner, the high-voltage battery warranty is 8 years or 1,60,000 km, whichever comes earlier.
Prospective used-EV buyers should consequently verify the remaining warranty status rather than assuming the original owner's lifetime coverage transfers with the vehicle.
