Kia India Plans $1.5 Billion Investment in Andhra Pradesh – Production Capacity Could Rise to 5 Lakh Units
Kia India is reportedly planning a fresh investment of $1.5 billion (approximately ₹14,000 crore) to expand its manufacturing operations in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed expansion could increase the automaker's annual production capacity from approximately 3 lakh to 5 lakh vehicles, strengthening its manufacturing footprint in India.
The South Korean automaker is evaluating a major expansion of its existing Anantapur manufacturing facility, potentially involving the addition of a new production line.
The investment could be formally announced at the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Investor Summit in Visakhapatnam, where Kia may sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government.
However, Kia has not officially confirmed the $1.5 billion investment or the proposed capacity expansion as of November 6, 2026.

Anantapur Plant Could Receive a Major Capacity Boost
Kia's Anantapur facility has been central to its Indian operations since mass production commenced in August 2019. The company entered the Indian passenger vehicle market with the Seltos and subsequently expanded its portfolio across multiple vehicle segments.
According to Kia India's official information, the Anantapur manufacturing facility has an annual installed capacity of approximately 3 lakh vehicles. The proposed expansion could increase this figure to 5 lakh vehicles, adding approximately 2 lakh units of annual manufacturing capacity.

The additional production line could enable Kia to accommodate new vehicle programmes and a wider range of powertrain technologies. This would provide greater manufacturing flexibility as the company prepares for the next phase of growth in India's competitive passenger vehicle market.
Expansion Could Support Kia's Future SUV, Hybrid and EV Portfolio
One of the most significant implications of the proposed investment is the flexibility it could create for Kia's future product strategy. The automaker has been expanding its Indian portfolio while evaluating opportunities across different powertrain technologies, including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles.
Additional production capacity could support higher volumes of existing models while creating manufacturing space for new vehicles. The latest reported investment would represent a substantial step towards supporting those growth ambitions, although the models and powertrain technologies allocated to the additional capacity have not been disclosed.
Kia's Record October 2026 Sales Strengthen Expansion Case
The reported investment comes at a time when Kia India is witnessing strong sales momentum. The automaker registered its highest-ever monthly wholesales of 33,462 vehicles in October 2026, representing 13.22% year-on-year growth.
During January–October 2026, Kia dispatched 2,86,470 vehicles, surpassing its entire calendar-year 2025 volume of 2,80,286 units. The Seltos and Sonet remained important volume contributors, while new products and alternative powertrains supported the company's growth.
This performance provides a stronger commercial rationale for additional manufacturing capacity, particularly as Kia seeks to expand beyond its existing product portfolio.
Andhra Pradesh Attracts ₹1,614 Crore Investment From Korean Suppliers
The proposed Kia expansion follows another significant development in Andhra Pradesh's automotive manufacturing ecosystem. Three South Korean automotive component suppliers — Hwashin, Seoyon and Iwamet have committed combined investments of ₹1,614 crore in Anantapur.
Supplier | Investment |
Hwashin | ₹850 crore |
Seoyon | ₹514 crore |
Iwamet | ₹250 crore |
Total | ₹1,614 crore |
These projects are expected to generate approximately 1,418 jobs and strengthen the regional supply chain supporting automotive manufacturing. The suppliers' commitments could complement Kia's proposed expansion by improving access to locally manufactured components and reducing logistical complexity.

Auto Punditz Analysis
Kia India's $1.5 billion investment plan aims to enhance its manufacturing presence and support long-term growth in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The expansion could boost annual production capacity at Anantapur from 3 lakh to 5 lakh vehicles, a 66.7% increase.
This added capacity would allow Kia to better meet domestic demand, increase exports, and support future product launches.
The investment aligns with Kia's evolving product strategy as the Indian market shifts towards electrification, potentially supporting new SUVs, hybrids, and electric vehicles.
Additionally, a stronger local supplier ecosystem could develop, with ₹1,614 crore investments from South Korean component manufacturers positioning Anantapur as a key automotive hub.
However, increased capacity alone doesn't ensure higher sales. Kia must maintain competitive products, expand market reach, and balance domestic and export production to fully utilize the facility.
This investment could signal Kia's next growth phase in India. If executed, it would enhance manufacturing flexibility and competitiveness against Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra. Official confirmation and further details on the project's scope, timelines, and execution are awaited.
