Kia Motors now contributes near to 10% of the Passenger Cars exported from India! With exports of 28,520 units; it overtook Volkswagen as India’s fifth largest PV exporter.
OEMwise Exports Statistics for Apr-Dec 2020 –
Passenger Vehicle Exports registered a YoY drop of -46.1% in Apr-Dec’20 period v/s same period last year. Hyundai retained its spot as India’s largest PV exporter.
Maruti Suzuki has been one of the biggest gainers in terms of exports this year and has ramped up its export volumes rapidly. It has easily surpassed Ford’s exports numbers and has stabilized its position in the second spot.
There has been a massive dip in Ford’s Exports share and is a matter of larger concern. Now that it has announced that the JV with M&M is not going through; what’s Ford thinking to utilize its production capacity?
With GM all ready to exit Indian operations; Kia is set to dethrone it as fourth largest exporter in Jan’21. Kia now exports its Made in India offerings to over 70 countries!
Nissan has registered a record drop in exports share. It contributed to just 6.1% of the nation’s exports figures in Apr-Dec’20 period; v/s 11.3% in Apr-Dec’19.

Ford’s Ecosport was India’s Top Exported Passenger Vehicle and over 35k units were shipped in the first 9 months of FY21.
General Motors Beat stood second in the list and was 2,831 units ahead of Hyundai Verna. GM was exporting the Beat to Mexico & Latin American markets from the Talegaon plant. However; GM has shut down the facility in December 2020.
Kia has been able to significantly ramp up production for exports too. Seltos is now India’s Fourth Largest Exported Passenger Vehicle and also the No.1 exported Mid SUV! Seltos is currently being exported to over 40 countries in South Africa, South America & South Asian markets from the Indian subcontinent.
India will serve as a core manufacturing hub for Kia and even Sonet will be exported to over 70 countries. Do note that Sonet is currently being produced only in India and will be shipped to markets like Middle-East, Africa, Latin America and Asia. Around 1,486 units of the Sonet were exported in the first three months itself (Sep’20, Oct’20 & Nov’20).
3 Executive Sedans fare in the Top 10 list! While these models do not have such acceptance in the Indian market; export volumes are surely encouraging.
S-Presso is Maruti’s Top exported vehicle! S-Presso which has been conceptualized and designed in India is exported to parts of Asia, Latin America and Africa.
Modelwise Exports Statistics for April to December 2020 –
