Kia Sales Analysis for March 2021 – Seltos, Sonet, Carnival

Seltos was the best-selling Kia model in March 2021 and was followed by Sonet in the second spot and Carnival ranked third. Kia Motors India recorded cumulative domestic dispatches of 19,100 units in March 2021 as against 8,583 units during the same period in 2020 with a Year-on-Year volume increase of 123%. The volumes also saw an increase of 14% MoM.

  • Seltos entered the Indian market as Kia's first product back in August 2019. Despite leading the way for many months, the Seltos gave up the leading position in the Mid SUV segment to the Hyundai Creta. This was mainly due to the arrival of the second generation Creta early last year and over the due course, Creta extended its gap to the Seltos further. While the Creta was India's best-selling Mid SUV with more than 12,460 unit sales, the Seltos finished second in its segment with dispatches of 10,557 units. When compared to the same period in 2020 with 7,466 units, the Seltos recorded a YoY increase of 41%. The volumes also recorded an increase of 27% in Mar'21 v/s Feb'21.

  • Kia garnered a 6% market share in Mar’21 with a drop of 0.1 percent and finished fourth in the overall manufacturers’ standings.

  • Kia Sonet is now India's fourth best-selling Compact SUV and fell 1 spot in the ranking table. The Sonet competes against Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Honda WR-V and Mahindra XUV300 in the fiercely competitive segment. Sonet sold 8,498 units in March 2021 and was Kia's second best-selling model last month.

  • The Carnival MPV managed to garner just 45 units in March 2021 as against 1,117 units in March 2020 with a 96% decline in volumes.
