  • BMW registered 368 electric cars in July 2026, maintaining its position as India’s largest luxury EV manufacturer. Registrations increased by 36.3% year-on-year from 270 units in July 2025. However, registrations declined by 28.8% from 517 units in June 2026. BMW accounted for 52.5% of the segment, though its market share decreased by 8.9 percentage points from 61.4% in July 2025, due to competition from Mercedes-Benz and Tesla.

  • Mercedes-Benz secured second place with 163 registrations, a 41.7% year-on-year increase from 115 units, capturing a 23.3% market share in July 2026. This was a decline from 26.1% last year. Registrations fell 32.9% from 243 units in June. Despite the monthly drop, year-on-year growth shows rising demand for Mercedes-Benz electric models.

  • In July 2026, Tesla registered 115 vehicles, securing third place in luxury electric car rankings. Registrations surged from 38 units in June, marking a 202.6% month-on-month growth. Tesla’s market share rose to 16.4%, establishing it as a key competitor in the premium EV space. Although there were no registrations in July 2025, Tesla significantly contributed to the segment's annual volume increase in July 2026, impacting the market share of established German luxury brands.

  • Volvo registered 49 electric vehicles in July 2026, a 6.5% increase from 46 units in July 2025. Unlike BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Volvo saw positive sequential growth, with registrations up 25.6% from 39 units in June. Volvo held a 7% market share, down from 10.5% in July 2025, due to the faster growth of the luxury EV segment.

  • Porsche recorded six electric vehicle registrations during July, compared with eight units in both July 2025 and June 2026. This resulted in a 25% decline on both year-on-year and month-on-month bases. Porsche’s share of the luxury EV market stood at 0.9%, down from 1.8% a year earlier.

  • Audi and Lotus did not record any registrations during July 2026. Audi had registered one vehicle each in July 2025 and June 2026, while Lotus had recorded one unit in the previous month.

BMW led India’s luxury electric car market in July 2026 with a 52.5% share, while Tesla emerged as the third-largest brand.

Auto Punditz Verdict:

The July data highlights two contrasting trends. Luxury EV registrations increased strongly compared with the previous year, but declined from the elevated volumes recorded in June.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz together accounted for 75.8% of July registrations, retaining their dominance in the segment. However, their combined share has come under pressure following Tesla’s rise to a 16.4% market share.

The entry and expansion of additional electric models are gradually broadening India’s luxury EV market beyond the established European manufacturers. BMW remains the clear leader, but Tesla’s rapid sequential growth indicates that the competitive structure

of the segment could continue to evolve over the coming months.
