Maruti Suzuki Fronx has crossed the 5 lakh domestic wholesales milestone in India, becoming the first Nexa SUV to achieve this landmark. Launched in April 2023, the Baleno-based coupe-SUV has taken just 38 months to reach this mark, underlining how quickly it has become one of Maruti Suzuki’s most important UV products.
As per the latest report, Fronx has registered 5,12,829 units in domestic wholesales till the end of May 2026. It has also emerged as a major export contributor, with over 1.75 lakh units shipped overseas, and was India’s No. 1 exported passenger vehicle in FY2026.

CY2026 data is till May 2026.
Fronx recorded 20,686 units in May 2026, making it the model’s highest monthly volume in CY2026 so far. It was also only the third time Fronx crossed the 20,000-unit monthly mark, after February 2025: 21,461 units and December 2025: 20,706 units.
The May 2026 performance is particularly important because it came with strong YoY and MoM growth:
Metric | Sales |
May 2025 | 13,584 units |
April 2026 | 18,829 units |
May 2026 | 20,686 units |
YoY Growth | +52.3% |
MoM Growth | +9.9% |
This helped Fronx become one of the key contributors to Maruti Suzuki’s record May 2026 performance. Maruti Suzuki’s passenger vehicle wholesales stood at 1,90,337 units in May 2026, while its utility vehicle dispatches hit 79,267 units. Fronx, with 20,686 units, was the best-selling UV for the month.
Fronx Has Sold Over 82,000 Units in Just 5 Months of CY2026
In CY2026, Fronx has already sold 82,306 units between January and May. This is around 45.8% of its full CY2025 volume in just five months.
Period | Fronx Sales |
Jan-May 2025 | 78,251 units |
Jan-May 2026 | 82,306 units |
Growth | +5.2% |
While January and February 2026 were lower than the same months last year, the model recovered strongly from March onwards. April and May 2026 were especially strong, with both months registering healthy double-digit YoY growth.
Calendar-Year Growth Shows Fronx’s Consistency
Fronx was launched in April 2023, so CY2023 reflects only nine months of sales. Yet, it still managed 94,393 units in its launch year.
In CY2024, Fronx moved up to 1,56,236 units, and in CY2025, it further climbed to 1,79,894 units.
Calendar Year | Sales | Growth |
CY2023 | 94,393 | - |
CY2024 | 1,56,236 | - |
CY2025 | 1,79,894 | +15.1% vs CY2024 |
CY2026 YTD | 82,306 | Jan-May only |
The key point is that Fronx has not remained a one-year launch spike. It has continued to grow even after its initial novelty phase, which is usually a strong indicator of product-market fit.
How Fronx Reached the 5 Lakh Milestone
As per the cumulative sales trend, Fronx has achieved 5,12,829 units in domestic wholesales till May 2026.
Period | Sales |
CY2023 | 94,393 |
CY2024 | 1,56,236 |
CY2025 | 1,79,894 |
CY2026 Jan-May | 82,306 |
Cumulative Total | 5,12,829 |
The model reached 1 lakh sales in 10 months, 2 lakh in 17 months, 3 lakh in a little over 23 months, 4 lakh in 33 months, and the 5 lakh mark in 38 months.
This means the last 1 lakh units came in only around six months, showing that demand has actually strengthened rather than slowed down.
Why Fronx Has Worked So Well
The Fronx occupies an interesting space in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. It is based on the Baleno platform but carries SUV-inspired styling, higher ground clearance appeal, a coupe-like roofline and a more premium Nexa positioning. This gives it a strong advantage among buyers who want an SUV-like design without moving to a larger or more expensive model.
The engine and fuel options have also helped. Fronx is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, and a CNG option. The CNG variant, launched a few months after the petrol version, expanded its appeal among mileage-focused buyers.
Fronx Is Now a Core Nexa Volume Driver
Fronx is currently one of the strongest products in the Nexa portfolio. In FY2026, it sold 1,72,363 units, finishing just behind the Baleno, which registered 1,72,560 units. In the first two months of FY2027, Fronx has moved ahead of both Baleno and Grand Vitara in Nexa sales.
This is significant because Nexa was earlier heavily dependent on models like Baleno and Grand Vitara for volumes. Fronx has now given Nexa a high-volume SUV-styled product in the compact space.
Export Performance Adds Another Growth Lever
Fronx is not just a domestic success. It has also become one of Maruti Suzuki’s strongest export models. Over 1.75 lakh units have already been exported, and in FY2026, Fronx was India’s No. 1 made-in-India export model with 90,186 units. It accounted for around 20% of Maruti Suzuki’s record PV exports of 4,43,825 units in FY2026. (Source)
This gives Fronx a dual advantage: high domestic acceptance and strong international demand.
AutoPunditz Take
The Fronx is one of Maruti Suzuki’s smartest product moves in recent years. It successfully bridges the gap between premium hatchbacks and compact SUVs, while giving Nexa a high-volume SUV-styled model.
The sales data clearly shows three things:
First, Fronx has sustained demand beyond its launch phase.
Second, it has become a major contributor to Maruti’s UV growth.
Third, its export performance makes it more than just an India-focused model.
With 5 lakh domestic sales in 38 months, over 82,000 units already sold in CY2026, and a record 20,686-unit month in May 2026, the Fronx has firmly established itself as one of Maruti Suzuki’s most successful modern nameplates.
