Maruti Suzuki Festive SUV Sales Double; Pending Bookings Surge to 2.7 Lakh Units

Maruti Suzuki records 35% festive retail growth between Ganesh Chaturthi and Dussehra, driven by higher SUV deliveries and steady demand for small cars.

India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has reported strong festive-season demand in 2026, with SUV retail sales doubling and its pending booking pipeline expanding to approximately 2.7 lakh vehicles.

The company recorded a 35% year-on-year increase in retail sales between Ganesh Chaturthi and Dussehra, supported by improving availability of popular SUVs, particularly the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Brezza.

Meanwhile, small-car retail sales increased by approximately 16–17% during the same period, indicating that demand remains healthy beyond the SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki expects double-digit retail growth for the overall festive period spanning Onam to Diwali.

SUV Sales Double as Victoris and Brezza Supplies Improve

The SUV segment emerged as a major growth driver for Maruti Suzuki during the festive season.

According to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, the company benefited from increased supplies of the Victoris and Brezza, helping it meet higher demand.

This development is particularly important as Maruti Suzuki continues to strengthen its presence in India's highly competitive SUV market.

However, the company has not disclosed absolute SUV retail volumes for the festive comparison period, so the doubling cannot yet be translated into a confirmed unit-sales figure.

Pending Bookings Rise by 70,000 Vehicles

Maruti Suzuki's booking pipeline expanded considerably during October 2026.

After Dussehra

270000

The increase represents 70,000 additional pending bookings, or 35% growth in the order backlog from the beginning of October.

This strong pipeline provides visibility into demand ahead of the remaining festive period. However, pending bookings should not be interpreted as vehicles already sold or delivered.

The company is working to maximise vehicle dispatches and customer deliveries to meet festive demand.

Navratri Sales Remain Flat Despite Broader Festive Growth

While overall festive sales have been encouraging, Maruti Suzuki reported that its Navratri 2026 deliveries were approximately 98% of the previous year's level.

This contrasts with the company's stronger performance during the broader Ganesh Chaturthi-to-Dussehra period.

Industry-wide passenger vehicle registrations also declined during Navratri 2026.

The comparison requires context. Navratri 2025 benefited from GST-related demand and covered 11 days, compared with ten days in 2026. Consequently, last year's exceptional base makes the year-on-year comparison less representative of underlying demand.

Importantly, Maruti Suzuki's 35% growth figure covers a broader festive period and should not be directly compared with FADA's Navratri-only registration numbers.

Maruti Suzuki Expects Double-Digit Growth Through Diwali

Maruti Suzuki remains optimistic about festive retail demand, supported by its substantial outstanding booking pipeline. The company is targeting double-digit retail growth for the entire Onam-to-Diwali season, although the final outcome will depend partly on vehicle availability and the pace at which outstanding orders are fulfilled.

The growth outlook reflects improving SUV supplies and continued customer interest across vehicle segments.

Auto Punditz Take

Maruti Suzuki's festive performance highlights two important developments in India's passenger vehicle market.

First, the doubling of SUV retail volumes suggests that improved supply availability can materially strengthen the company's performance in this competitive segment. The Victoris and Brezza appear to be playing an important role.

Second, the 16–17% growth in small-car retail indicates that affordable passenger vehicles continue to attract buyers, despite the wider industry's shift towards SUVs.

However, the 2.7 lakh pending booking figure is as much an execution challenge as a demand indicator. Maruti Suzuki must convert these orders into timely deliveries while managing production and dealership inventory.

The most important indicator to watch next will be how successfully the company converts its festive booking backlog into retail sales.
